So I bought a 2015 ac Tacoma with a manual transmission. Now going from first to second it feels rough in the shifter. In all the other gears it just seems to drop in but first to second feels different. Is this normal? My 03 jeep did the same thing but figured it was because it was older. This truck only has 500 miles.

If you feel like there is a problem, just take it to the dealer and have them check it out. That way it can be on record that you brought it in for this problem.

+1 on going to the dealer to record the issue.

These trucks shift better with Redline MT-90 gear oil, and first to second is one of the areas where RL MT-90 leads to smoother shifting. Do a TW search and read the many posts about it. Your truck is too new for this at 500 miles, but since you are sensitive to the feel of the manual transmission you will want to know about MT-90 for use in your truck later.

It's not so much as being sensitive to the feel of a manual. I don't mind it it just seems odd. If I double clutch it the problem seems to go away

    Do dents and scratches count?
go to the dealer and get it checked out as others have said. If their is an issue it will be recorded that you had it checked when new.

That being said these transmissions are really clunky and sloppy. They do get better with some miles on though. Cant attest to the fluid change suggested above. But, I am on factory lube and it shifts a lot better than new. Still like a truck though.

seems like this is a more common problem after looking through that link gearcruncher sent. It might break in. It only feels like that if i shift and the rpms are at or above 2500 if i let them drop it goes in smooth.

I always try to shift around 2000 to 2300, even when accelerating into traffic. It shifts more smoothly and the axle wrap effect is reduced.

Both my '08 and my '13 feel the exact same way... But no issues with either of them after 100k+ miles (other than that rough feel)

I've read that the TRD and URD quickshifters "help" (but NOT "eliminate") with that roughness...

I made an appointment for the toyota dealer. Im not to worried about it since theres no grinding just that rough feeling. But id rather have it noted in case it turns into a problem.
