Plain & Boring Truck Caps

This cap is more versatile than "old man" caps like mine. It's like a hybrid trailer, top pops up or lid is easily removed. If this ever goes to market I'll get one. Guy claimed 20% mpg gain.

 

That looks awesome. What is the bed constructed of? Is it homemade, or a camping cot?

Personally, I'm not a big fan of caps as to me the truck is now an SUV, but it is very convenient. I spend some time with mine on, some time with it off.

I've had caps on almost every truck I've owned beginning with an aluminum one on my '86 Ford Ranger. I guess I qualify. Just bought a DCSB 3 weeks ago and my wife just about convinced me to put a hard cover tonneau on it. I think this post changed my mind.

I use my truck for everything including hunting and fishing- tailgating at football games, you name it.

I don't have a basement or a garage and storage around here is at a premium. A cap let's me keep everything I need for each season ready to go when I need it. I containerized everything so I can slide it what I need and easily remove what I don't.

When I'm hunting North of Moosehead Lake in Maine and the closest tow truck is 50-100 miles away that means shovels, chain saws, hard cases for the shotgun and rifle and lots of survival gear. if you get stuck somewhere and have to wait a couple of days before the next 4x4 drives by, you don't want to be without a small propane stove and a few days worth of food to get by.

A cap just really makes sense to keep things high and dry and secured.

 

I'm learning all sorts of stuff this week. You mean there other holidays besides Merican ones?

So now I've been doing some reading. I know the poem, but I'm sad to say I'm not familiar with the tradition; truly a noble remembrance.

 

I simply cannot read very much of the literature and poetry from WWI without just losing it and crying.

 

I saw a guy knock together a frame from 4x4's.
Uses a couple straps and a come-along.

Backs under the frame, hoist it up only an inch or so off the bed, drives out from under it.
He said building it took about 2 days with the post holes but now he can have the cap on and off in minutes.
I thought it was pretty slick myself.

Read the news today and a tremendous amount of the trouble many countries are having today still go back to WWI.

The mechanization of war became evident by around 1863.
If one side has enough ammo and men to simply sustain a firescreen, no amount of bravery on the other side can make a frontal charge successful.
