I am interested in learning the one main reason why everyone chose to purchase a Tacoma. My reason was because of the well known, long term dependability.

The Tacoma was the only available mid-sized regular cab 4WD in 2014.

Overseas, my father has a Toyota Hilux, has a Land Cruiser through his work, so I grew up mostly around Toyotas.

The mod options are endless, it is a "right size" truck, dependable, can haul a flats boat, and was the truck that felt right after test driving a frontier/f150/tundra.

Doesn't hurt that I can park mostly where I want to. Fishing gear/kayak fit nicely.

It's a nicer size than the 3, 2nd Gen Tundras I had last. Looks cool lifted.

I originally was looking at the F150, then the Ram. I didn't care much for the look of the Tacoma as it actually looks like a toy. But, when I started to consider the cost of the F150 and Ram in comparison to what I really needed in a truck, I realized the Tacoma was for me.

Now? I wish I had bought this thing a few years ago. I've traded off mileage, but have gained EVERYTHING else in exchange. It is my daily driver, it will haul and tow what I need when I need, and I don't expect to get stuck in it like I did in another vehicle about two years ago. It's not unnecessarily oversized, and easy to navigate in parking lots.

I literally made a last minute decision to buy and have to say it has been the best decisions I've made when buying a vehicle.

Bought a Tacoma because the salesperson at Nissan was a twit.
In hindsight, I should send him a thank you card.

    Reliability and resale.

The best vehicle I ever owned was a 95.5 4x4 Taco. Kick myself everyday for selling it!

I don't give a damn that the new GM products have far more power, better interiors etc. I'm planning on owning this truck ten years and having it still be worth something

Cheap, simple, decent reliability record, and good resale value. Those are the reasons I bought my Tacoma. My plan is to wait until Ford has their new F-150 out for a couple of years, let them work out any kinks, and trade out for an FX4 with the 3.5L, maybe the 2.7L, EcoBoost. That will be the truck I modify, primarily for power/speed, and the Tacoma is staying stock because I just don't see any mods out there that justify the money or effort. I'll definitely get a lot of use out of the Tacoma while I have it but the F-150 is where its at in my opinion.

I've always loved the way they look. They're known to be great off-road and all-around trucks. I wanted a mid-sized truck, and the resale value plus all the old ones I see driving around are a testament to their longevity.

I agree with others, if you were looking for a mid-size truck before 2015 it was a no-brainer.

The size fits like a glove, I like that in DCSB config as a friend of mine put "feels like a sports car with a pickup box on the back". I like the looks, I like that the trucks have almost more clearance stock than any other stock vehicle on sale.

It is a perfect combination of size, features, price, and power. Add to that the reliability and overall capabilities and it is hard to beat. Having had many types of vehicles and full and mid size trucks, the tacoma just seems to be the most useful the most amount of time.

It was the only mid size, 4wd, 4 door, with a manual that was/is available.

Had a 89 2 wheel drive for 6 yrs, turned around and bought a 89 SR5 V6 in 95 which I heavily modified. Had it for 6 yrs and sold it for 3k with 273k on it. Had a LandRover for a while but too many issues, bought a 2013 last month. It was like putting on an old pair of shoes, glad to be back in a truck. Especially a Tacoma!

I feel the same, my first vehicle was a '92, 22RE. My 2014, DC, OR is like a throwback to the good ole days. Of course my 2nd gen is a lot bigger, but much of the original DNA is still present and visible throughout, an example is the dot matrix clock (now removed on the 2015's)

This is my 5th Toyota and you can't beat their reliability or re-sale value. My last non Toyota was a GM, and it was such a POS that I put my foot through the dealership window when they couldn't fix it's many problems.
