New to the site. I have a 2006 4 door 4X4 Tacoma and recently smashed the rear window hauling firewood . I have called the dealer and Safelight auto glass. They are both looking for about $650 to replace the window. Anyone have a better, ie. less expensive, solution to replacing the window. Have heard that non OEM windows don't fit well and cannot find an OEM window online.

Anyone replaced a rear window? Is it something that I can do and not have issues with or should I just suck it up and pay the $650.00.

i had a local shop do mine for $350 (owner is a family friend so i prolly got cut a good deal) but the other shops wanted over $600 for it also, but the outside seals arent quite as big as the one that came out, there was a dust line that was 1/2 or so out side the edge of the new window. i think the one i got may have actually been for a 1st gen tundra or something

I might be drunk, but I can't seem to find the video.

Anyways the rubber piece that surrounds the outside of the window. You should be able to pull the rubber out, and the glass come out with it. Should also be able to push from the inside out. As for replacement, water and soap solution around the inside of the rubber, then push the window back in

good luck with that. there are also a couple of 10 mm nuts on the top corners and some clips on the bottom. i couldnt get my old one out in one piece. i thought id figure out how to do it on it and go to a junk yard and just swap it out but i had to use a guitar string, razor blade, and channel locks to remove the busted one

I had to replace mine and went with a solid rear window instead of the split because it was about $250 cheaper. I like it and can see way better out of it

    sounds familiar....

Broke mine few months ago...Toyota wanted $1400 for OEM and safelite fixed it for $430 CASH (or about $520 with creditcard). Same lifetime warranty nationwide.....

I think it is Pilkington glass (spelling?). It is OK in term of performance (no wind noise, no water leaks, no dust leaks...YET). On the looks side it does NOT look as good as the OEM.
