Just ordered the factory skid plate for my '09. I should have it tomorrow.

My question is this. If you were going to paint it black, and mask off the text "TRD".....leaving that the silver color - what paints would you use? I saw a similar skid plate here once. It was all black, and had TRD written on it. Anyways.....should I go to the expense of powder coating the black? Can you mask off an area when powder coating is involved? Or would I be good enough to just use some quality spray paints and do it myself? I have some skills in the paint area.....so I'm kind of wanting to try that.

    Looking for input. Thanks.

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. Wonder where I could get a decal like that? And I wonder how it would stand up to washes and weather?

Yes, go to walmart or an auto place and get a quart of paint on bed liner for $30 or a few rattle cans of spray on. It looks great, durable and easy to touch up when you gouge it.

So I got the skid plate yesterday. Checked into powder coating......but that's WAY too much. I did some coats of spray and finished with a satin clear. Got the decals from a local place.

    Here's the project so far...

Not sure if I should apply another clear coat over the decals. At this point, it's basically ready to go on.

good work, the thing with spray paint and bedline is you can touch it up. I would never powder coat something that's purpose is to get scratched up

    Haha....thanks.

That's the beauty of this item. It only cost a couple hundred bucks....and the decals and paint were cheap. If it gets all messed up eventually, I'll just do another one.

It's a place in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada called 'Canada Custom Vehicles' ( http://www.ccvmotogarage.com/ ). They do all kind of mods for all kinds of vehicles. They have a guy on staff that just does graphics and what-not. The dude brought his laptop down to the main sales area.....and showed me some of the stock images he had. In litterally 5 minutes, he had the TRD image set-up as you see it. Off he went to cut it, and 20 mins later I was leaving the store.

May not be the biggest mod ever. But it's a start for me.

    Here's the skid plate attached....
