Definitely be careful with the tailgate as others have posted. I was on my way coming home from work today and saw a Tacoma come by that had a fourwheeler on teh back and the tailgate was definitely messed up. It looked like a tailgate turned into a smiley face! Definitely wasn't a pretty sight.

:typing:Don't get mad but I have a related question to the original one. What about strapping the bike down. My 09 has the the spots to tie down in the rear of the bed but the front has none, are we supposed to use the things that slide in the upper part of the bed rail? This is the first truck I've owned that does not have four places to solidly anchor.

I've used those bed rails before, but would suggest investing in a set of d-rings to install into the bolts that are drilled into the bed.

My wife has the truck at the moment so I can't go look, now I remember there being 3 holes that I thought were for water to drain from the bed near the front, are these the holes you're referring to, or somewhere else?

    Thanks for the response!

I think he is talking about the large bolts in front that bolt the plastic bed to the frame.

To the OP, have you thought about a hitch mounted bike hauler? Cheaper than a trailer and alot easier to back up. My buddy made one out of a beefy hitch haul that was wicked, it was rated for 500lb before he reinforced it. He uses it on a Jeep wrangler it looks kind of scary but so far so good.

me and my dad haul our bikes (91 sportster and 54 panhead) in the back of his 150 untill he got boxes on the truck.

now i have an 09 single cab "long bed" we just take off the tailgate and sit the bikes on the 2x8x10's (cut down to 9 foot) and strap everything in good

No doubt as everything else we put in that thing slides all over the place!!

You just reminded me to order a rubber bed mat. The teflon coated uber slippery bed is starting to piss me off.......

Just got my 2007 Ninja 650R. It's so much fun! I can't believe this is a "noob" bike. Anyway, I used 4 rail cleats and both d-rings. Drove 100 miles and the plastic cleats handled it. If you secure it right, then the cleats won't bend.

The easiest and best way to haul a bike on the short bed is to make a c channel for the tires to rest on and they won't scoot left or right. My old short bed ford we had to do that for my friends big dog. And my ultra. If you can find an old steel c channel it will work. Or get a a 2x6 and add sides to it. Just screw 1x4 to the sides. The 2x6 will spread the weight from the tailgate so it won't bend.
Heck with the bigdog. The back tire hung off the tailgate but was still on the c channel.

I used those holes, the ones for rain water. I bought a set of D-rings from the Toyota dealership, the same ones that are in the back of the bed, drilled out the outter two rain drain holes in the front of the bed and installed them there. I put a good sized fender washer on the bottom side of the bed to help prevent pull through. I haul a 750 Katana in the bed and don't trust the bed rail system. I also chock the front tire so it stays centered and straight in the front of the bed. I built a simple system using some leftover 2x4's.

my suggestion is to purchase some canyon dancer IIs and install additional d-rings on the front bolts in the bed.

I wish I bought an access cab... dammit! The Sport DC LB is too long and it doesn't have the locker. Maybe I'll trade in my Coma for a 2010 TRD OR AC 4x4.

Does anyone know if a 2014 TRD O/R DCSB will still have tailgate issues with a motorcycle in the bed? I am looking to purchase my first bike soon and ill be driving to pick it up a couple hours away. Its gonna (hopefully) be a BMW F800GS for weight comparison.
