I am looking to buy a tacoma.
    I live in upstate NY.
Should I try to get the trd sport or off road, or is the stock 2008 non trd good enough for most snowstorms and some off roading.
It doesn't have lsd at all, I think just open differentials...

It does not have lsd, as far as I can tell the stock sr5 has an open differential.
    (which does worry me)
But I have no experience with 4wd or pickup trucks.
    Thanks,
    B

    Vehicle:
    08 SR5 4x4 w/off road mods
3" Icon lift, coilovers, reservoir r. shocks, AAL, Icon UCA, 17" Eagle wheels, extra electrical, inverter, ICOM VHF
I have a 2008 4x4 SR5 DCLB, with LSD option and trailer tow package.
I bought it as a base for mods. I didn't get a TRD as I didn't want to pay for stuff to throw away, and I didn't need expensive stickers. I would have liked the TRD seats, but couldn't weasel that as an upgrade from the dealer!
We added 3" lift, Icon UCA, reservoir shocks, etc., etc.
Have 265/70/17 tires - first Toyo ATs, now BFG Rough Terrains.
Haven't been in a lot of snow, but haven't had problems, or a fear of problems in the snow we saw.
Have done a good amount of offroad in Baja, with no problems.
I guess ATRAC in a newer TRD Offroad might be nice - but I haven't gotten stuck, or been anywhere uncomfortable, so I don't know.
    Good luck.
