So I just thought I would check a dealership to see how much they would give me for my truck if I decided to trade in on a TRD Pro. My truck is a 2012 Tacoma DCSB, white, 20100 miles, factory tow package, TRD Sport, 4x4, v6. It is in excellent condition, and wanna guess what they offered me for it?

$23,500! I laughed. Then he says what will it take. I said, you can run a kbb trade in report just like me! Oh, and I didn't tell them about any accessories, as I plan on removing all of those.

    What do you guys think?

    Jon

    Because I am crazy!

For some reason I want the trd pro grill, hood scoop with locking rear diff, Dac, and a trac.

    Crazy huh?

Just need to keep what I have

I got 24,000 for my 2012 prerunner dclb trd sport with 20,000. I thought it was fair considering I bought it for 27,000.

Are those things worth the extra "X" amount of money you'll have to shell out for the Pro? Your truck is brand new mileage wise, unless you really really want and need those things I wouldn't think it's worth it

I traded my 6 month old 2.7, PreRunner DC and got $24,000 for it. I paid $24,500 new for it and it had a $25,300 MSRP. Truck had 8k miles on it when I traded it.

I thought that was fair, plus I got $150 over invoice on a new TRD.

Op I can't tell from your pic or sig if you are a PreRunner or 4x4? One dealer I went to offered me $18k for the truck I just mentioned, by the time we were walking he was up to $23k but at that point my wife was on the phone with dealer #2 Who already had told her $24,000 sight unseen. Told dealer #1 to go pound sand.

You can transform your 2012 into a more capable rig for less $$ than you'll shell out for the TRD Pro. If it were me, that's what I'd do.

You are correct. Plus, I have bolstering 5100's all around, toytec springs, new winch and bumper and new tires.

My truck is 4x4. I think it should bring $28 - $29k easy. It is in excellent condition. Kbb puts it at $28-$30

If you want the TRD pro stuff just buy it. Atrac is cool but it not the only way to build a capable rig. From the sound of it you would be better off in a 4Runner trail edition.

And I want the nAv/premium radio

Again, I should just buy a nice aftermarket radio that will interface with my iPhone and be happy.

I also put the trd exhaust on my truck.

Starting to think that way. Maybe I will just add a supercharger to mine.

I find it very hard to believe you sell your used trucks for almost new price.

Sell, nothing. We are talking trade-in $$, not selling price...

The higher the trim level, the bigger the hit on depreciation. A cosmetic hood skewp isn't worth much on the used market. As long as it's got a V6, double cab, auto trans, and 4x4, the blue books and black books don't make much of a distinction between TRD and SR5.

You also have to consider if they saw it with modifications that will probably lower their offer, not raise it. A modified truck has a FAR narrower field of potential buyers than a stock one. But trade-in offers are often way out of whack. In 2010 I wanted to trade my absolutely mint 05 access cab SR5 4 cyl 4x4 for an 05 TRD double cab in kinda rough shape with more miles. They offered me 5 grand for my truck.... I sold it for almost 13 overnight on craigslist and bought the other one for 13,800. That truck did turn out being kind of a toilet and I sold it 2 years later. Finally found a nice 05 double cab last year. Probably paid a little more than I should have but I specifically wanted an 05.

Car dealers make more money from buying and reselling used vehicles than they do selling brand new ones.

They'll be happy to give you less money than what your truck is worth, then sell you a new truck for more money than it is worth........wait two more years, and try to sucker you again. It's a really dirty business.

Probably about right. I got $27,500 for my 4x4 SR5 Texas Edition with just under 30k miles. I did leave the lift on it though, so they gave me a little bit for that but nothing close to what I paid for it.

KBB is almost always high, and most dealers don't use it.
