    I have a 4' behind my cab. If I could re-do it I would've went 3 feet, but the 4 isn't bad. 5 would be wayyyy overkill.

You want about a foot or so above the cab, so I guess figure it out that way

I have tried a bunch of them. Here is what we have found out when mounting them on the hood area. I run a 2 foot Firestick the majority of the time when around town or in the woods. I gets out alright, and has a SWR of less than 1.5 so no problems there, this is on a Galaxy DX 959. When I want to get out, the best ant. we have found is a Wilson 4 footer, it is pre-loaded in a couple spots, has a swr of dead flat, and is a major improvement over the Firestick. I believe a 5 footer would get you out better, but would really be putting some force on the mounts and springs when in the wind while driving. We installed quick disconnects on both Tacoma's, and it only takes a couple seconds to install any of the ant. we have. Very good system and well worth the minimal cost. Hope this helps.
