Is there an easy way than blindly trying to use screw drivers from the back. What a can of worms I opened.

I'm assuming it's a drum, I always heard that you should barely be able to place it on over the pads. From there you crank it up another notch. It's been working well for me. I've also got a tool from my son's chevelle that they use to use back in the day. Still does the job, easier than any screw driver.

With all the opportunity to use a slightly different design, it saddens me that Toyota hasn't changed the design. It shouldn't have to be so hard.

It isn't hard. Lets say painstaking.

    From the Service manual:

The procedure is to have the wheel where you can turn it freely.
Tighten the adjuster up until the wheel locks.
Back the adjuster off 18 clicks of the adjuster.
Repeat for the other side and done.
