hey im looing to upgrade my rims either 17" or 18" and going to keep the over all diameter of the tire the same the only thing i want to change really is how far out the rims and tires are.
Right now my rims and tires are inside the wheel well and id like to be just a bit out side the wheel well to give it that aggressive stance.

so what off set rims are you guys using? I dont want to use spacers, also I dont use my truck for off roading thats why i dont want to go higher then 18" rims and keep tire size about the same

Not sure what size your stock wheels are but I had the stock 17" sport wheels and upgraded to 17" Fuel wheels. Fuel makes a few wheels that are hubcentric to tacomas and therefore do not require any hub rings. Spacers are not required either as long as you get an offset that will fit your truck. I have 17"x8.5" Fuels with a +25mm offset and the tires barely stick out of the wheel well but another option is the +14mm offset which will make them stick out more. Check out my thread called Fuel hostage +25mm offset or something like that and you can see pictures of my setup. Another member also posted some pics in that thread showing his 14 offset setup. Hope this helps, Im no expert but I was in the same boat as you just a month ago.

ok the picture helped and i understand what it means but you said you have 8" wide rim with 0 off set, would that not be 4" backing space?

Getting spacers is the same as having offset if you need them, I got 2 sets of spidertrax spacer and they have been perfect.

i dont mind the idea of spacers but if im buying new rims i figure i might as well get it right and only have the worry of 24 lug nuts insted of 48

You'd think that, but the thickness of the tire mounting surface on the rim itself enters into the equation.

so it measures (back spacing) from the mounting face to the out side of the rim lip correct?

So it sounds like what you want is a 285x60/R17 tire mounted on a 17" rim.

That'll be about an inch wider than the tires you have now, but the same diameter. If you mount it on a 17x8" rim with 4.5" backspacing, you should get the stance you want.

That'll still stick out more than factory. Assuming you're at factory ride height, you may need to remove your front mudflaps and possibly trim a bit of plastic inside the wheelwell. Or not. Your mileage may vary. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear. Beware of sudden dust storms. Coffee may be very hot.

Yeah. If it measured to the inside tire mounting surface, then 0 offset would be 4" backspacing on an 8" wide rim.

So now i know my stock rims are +32 off set if i were to put on a 32mm spacer (just in theory) then it would be the same as 0 off set

Spidertrax makes a spacer roughly like that.

If you want to keep running 265 tires that'd work.

If you want to bump to 285- make sure the tires are rated for install on a rim as narrow as the factory rim.

^It may be possible with a 2.5"-3" lift and stock UCAs, but such a setup may not be pleasant to drive. To achieve the caster correction, aftermarket UCAs move the upper balljoint rearward, which will reduce fender clearance.

The fender is actually what I'm hitting.....
its rubbing the flaps, but up high where I think even removing them it will still rub. And this is street driving, in and out of driveways

I just put on 265/75/16 Hankook ATM's with 16x8.5 -12 (4.5 BS) Level 8 Guardians - no lift - and I do not have any rubbing issues so far with street driving. The tire tread ends right at fender width and the side walls stick out a bit.
