    Fight it.
Toyota paid for my rental while my truck was in for new leaf packs.

I just snapped the bottom leaf on the driver's side. This is now the second time. Will have to go talk to the dealer

    secret stuff.
Took my 09' in yesterday here in N. FL for the melting headlight TSB, and the leaf springs due to getting the letter. Dealer told me there isn't an official fix yet unless they inspect and see an active issue. Other than that, they just inspected and said they would call when the recall/fix goes live.

I'm hoping for new 4 leaf springs and a reimbursement of the springs I had to replace 2 years ago when mine broke. Not holding my breath though. I used stock 3 leafs from General spring. They were great for a while but now are just as saggy as the stock springs were. I have a snowblower in my truck now and it's sagging. 250 pounds and it's hitting the bumpstops over moderate bumps at speed. Sad.

Oh, point noted, and I'm seriously considering putting in a different leaf pack.

That said, in this case, taking it to the dealer (which I have no love for) wasn't a bad call:

    1. They replaced the leaf pack on both sides with OEM gratis.
    2. They refunded me the parts and labor from the 2013 leaf replacement I had done.

So this will tide me over as I decide whether or not to replace the leaf pack with something else.

    Stock for now...
Use the refund to buy good quality aftermarket springs and sell the oem replacements . I'm waiting to see what they actually do with this , but not holding any high marks for the outcome . I'd bet just another crap 4 leaf axle-wrapping pack set .

Fyi. I spoke to Toyota corporate yesterday.
They have 750K springs to replace!
So don't hold your breath on this recall.
They will be doing broken springs with a safety hazard first, with all others to follow.

After talking with the dealership today and being told that it could be 6 months before they could get me a replacement for my cracked spring, I ordered Dakars and am done!

are they silently reimbursing people who replace their own springs? Like let's say you have a 2010 access cab with 95,000 on it and you feel your springs are wayyyy worn out from hauling firewood and what not...can you buy your own after market 4packs and have them installed and then submit for a reimbursement? And how much do they cover? I would not want to replace the current worn out springs with 3 sheets of the same paper thin springs...

I don't think anyone knows what they are going to do. I was told it could be up to 6 months for replacement parts that are considered temporary. In the mean time my truck was deemed unsafe to drive and the dealer was unwilling to supply me with a loaner.

I have to figure that they will reimburse me for another leaf pack? If they they don't, I will guess that they are going to end up with quite a class action lawsuit on their hands. The same thing happened when I had my Nissan Xterra, Nissan ended up having to shell put a bunch of money for transmissions.

I think Toyota spoke too early with the precall notice. They're going to lose face with all the snapped springs they aren't ready to replace.

I had an original rear leaf break about two years ago. I replaced both sides myself with General Spring HDs. They seemed good to go.

I just sold the truck about two weeks ago. I wonder what the chances are of getting reimbursed now.

You need to call corporate and demand a loaner for your unsafe truck.

Call... Everybody, have full names, dates, and times ready. I'd start with the dealership's General Manager, then the owner, Toyota corporate, BBB, and a lawyer.

I just tried last week to get my inspection and my mechanic told me both were broken. So I took it to toyota and they called me today and told me my leafs were bad .............. Like No S!@# Sherlock why did you think I brought here :frusty: then proceeded to tell me well the new springs are going to take weeks or up too and past 3 months but they can give me a rental on Friday at the earliest !?!?!?!?!?!?! at this point I think I'll try the new lift kit route and see if Toyota will give me some $$$$ as reimbursement cause idk if I wanna drive a Prius for 3 months lol
