Upgraded alternator ?

What is the easiest way to tell if I have the "upgraded" alternator? It's a 4.0 4wd DCSB 6spdw/ tow package. Does the alt come with tow package? Or do I have do decode my VIN and if so where does one do that?

A quick way is if you have the off-road package, then you have the larger alternator. Also check the size of that alternator power cable. The smaller alternator only uses an 8 gauge cable I believe, so it would be a little small.

 

The tow package on my '14 included a 130 amp alternator. However, I don't know what the standard amp alternator is.

 

You have it because it has the tow package. My 07 sport and 12 off-road both have them.

 

According to the window sticker for my 2011, the Tow Package is:
"Class 4 Hitch, Transmission and Supplemental Oil Coolers, 130A Alternator, Heavy Duty Battery, 7-Pin Connector w/Converter" for $650.00

So, unless they changed the '14, that's what the tow package gets you.
