My TPMS dash indicator flashes for about a minute, then stays on solid. According to the owners manual, this is an indication of a TPMS malfunction, rather than the solid light that indicates low tire pressure. I checked my tire pressure, and they are fine all around. My truck is a 2010 with almost 60k miles on it. I guess the most likely malfunction is a dead battery in one or more of the sensors at the valve stem.

    My questions:
1 Anyone have similar indicators officially diagnosed by dealer?
2 Anyone have sensors replaced due to battery failure?
    3 Anyone have cost estimates?
4 Anyone have the replacement done under warranty?

My Tacoma was bought used at 5000 miles, and I got the 100000 mile extended warranty. I have labored through the booklet, but found no definitive answer to whether they are included.

    Thanks

Aftermarket (Redi) sensors are around $45 a piece. It's probably just one sensor that's bad. Any reputable tire shop will test your sensors for free. If you're a costco member that would be your best bet. They have the Redi sensors usually in stock and they will install and reprogram your TPMS for $14. So you'd be looking at a grand total around $60. That's probably cheaper than the deductible on your warranty if there is one.

Thanks, I am a Costco member, so I'll give them a try first.

Jere - I was coming here to ask the exact same question. I bought my 07 used a couple months ago, and haven't seen a TPMS light until I took a 7 hr vacation trip on the interstate last week. After an hour or so, the light would come on, blink for a while, go solid, or go out. If the truck was allowed to sit for a few hours, it went away, and around town driving while I was down at the beach, it never came on. As soon as we loaded up and set out on the way back home, same issue kept happening.

My tires were reading ~32-33psi hot, which is where I like to run them, and the spare has 35 in it, so I know it's a malfunction.

I was wondering of a normal OBD2 scanner might be able to tell me what sensor is bad? If so I'll go borrow one from my buddy.

Did you check your spare tire??

There's a button on the dash (under steering wheel I think) where you can 'reset' the sensors .... I'm not exactly sure how that works - so you might want to look in the owners manual to see how to 'reset' the sensors. Just make sure your tires are fully inflated when you reset.

Yep. Looks like there's a scan tool that tire places can use to check as long as the light is on. I'm betting I just have a sensor out, or a battery failing or something. Until now I had never thought about there being batteries in those things.

Had issue on my 2008... Turned out to be the tpms module located behind the climate controls. I can't remember the quote they gave me to replace and reprogram the sensors, but I do remember I told them to f**k right off when they told me the price...
