I have read similar threads on here about using both the rear view mirror and HU at the same time, but I just want to know if there is a way to switch the back up camera from the HU to the rear view mirror. I have a 2012 TRD Sport with the JBL entune premium. The rear view mirror does have the LCD display.

If you have the LCD mirror it's probably just a matter of tapping into the video signal and taking it up to the mirror. Reverse of what a bunch of us with the mirror did to get it to the HU.

I personally like the rear view mirror better too because that's where you look anyway
Not sure how to switch it OP

I'm not good with all this technology stuff. if it involves a bunch of re-wiring, I think i will just leave it like it is.

I found another post talking about the factory backup camera (non jbl) plugs up behind the coin box on the drivers side. It looks like it is the plug under IN1. With the JBL systems the camera is re-routed to a different plug behind the drivers side kick panel. I'm thinking all I need to do is find the factory plug (for the mirror) and make a harness that I can solder into the current harness. Has anyone tried this before and does anyone know where I can get the factory connector for non JBL systems (to the mirror)? I will try and post a picture later, it's not letting me upload right now.

Has anyone tried this yet? I have a 2012 with the JBL Entune setup and would rather have the backup camera in the mirror

I have done it in my 2012 tacoma trd sport dclb w/ Jul entune. It is a fairly simple process. (Note: with the process I used the camera will show up on both the rear view and the hu).

I am just getting to work but when I get home I can upload pics and a step by step on what I did. I put in a relay so I could also run a switch to turn the camera on at any time.

But essentially ale you are doing is looping the video wires from the hu to the rear view connectors that are located under the dash on the drivers side.

Yeah, I like that about my '13. Much rather have it in the rear view mirror than the HU personally. No option for me.

First thing is to find this connector under the drivers side kick panel. It has 4 wires (black, red, white, and shielded ground). If you want the camera to show up on both the HU and the Rearview mirror, all you have to do is splice into the red and white wires.

After you splice into the wires, run them up to this connector, its beside the fuse panel (behind the little coin tray). I recommend taking off the bottom of the dash to this, as it will be near impossible to do just through the little hole. Then just match the wire colors and splice them together.

I have not tried to take the camera off of the HU yet so I cant help you with that. If you get it to work let me know. I just ran out of daylight and had to finish up and just haven't got back around to it yet.

If you want to know how to wire in a switch to a relay so the rearview mirror display will turn on with either a switch or putting the truck into reverse, let me know. This method is a little more complicated and requires you to diode isolate the reverse signal wire.
