Finally installed my "always-on" 12v outlet in one of the bed pockets.

    I was originally going to do this as a tutorial, but as it turns out, its allot of work to do those. Instead, I'll show some pics I took along the way and at the end. I bought this marine 12v outlet off eBay months ago. I'm tapping into the fused, always-on power source from the outlet I added to the center console in a previous mod.

    Maybe my sockets are crap but the 14mm had some slop and I can't stand scuffed up nuts, so here comes the painters tape;
    [IMG]

    I thought i'd be removing the seats but I only needed to remove the bolts and tilt the seat back to gain access to the floor plug;

    Prepping wire and loom;

    I didn't get any shots of me drilling a hole, but here is the back view of the outlet installed;

    From underneath;

    and another;

    And some shots of the loom running along side a factory loom;

    And another;

    And through the floor plug;

    That's it. I have to say, i haven't found a use for the 120V outlet yet but these always on 12v outlets are a must for a family with iPads, hotspots and phones.

    Aloha,
    Rob

    PS: Some of you may notice that white line above the outlet, looks like a scratch or a crack, well thats a crack of sorts. Turns out the inside of these bed pockets are lined with a sort of laminate. When drilling behind and applying moderate pressure, it cracks. If I had known, i would have applied less pressure and allowed the bit to do more of the work. Since this mod is inside the bed pocket and faces the front of the truck, I don't think anyone will notice this.

    I have something similar--I suggest running more than one wire back there for future expansion. Not much more time/cost to do so and it'll make future additions easier!

    This is not a bad idea. Personally, I knew I was tapping into an existing circuit i created for my always on 12v outlets in the cab and the bed. I may add bed lights to this circuit later, i'm fairly certain this wire will handle that current.

    Aloha,
    Rob

    why not just run a wire directly from the battery.... no adding unnecessary holes through the cab and you wont stress existing circuits.

    I tapped into an add-a-circuit that I put in for a 12v outlet in my center console earlier this year. Its a 15AMP fused circuit that now has two 12v outlets on it that will only be used to charge tablets and phones. Sure a dedicated circuit to the battery would have meant .....well nothing for me. I didn't have enough loom to make it to the battery. :D
