I'm looking at regearing to get some of my low end power back and help with mpg and help take some strain off the transmission. I need some input from others who regeared, I have an 2007 Tacoma double cab 4x4 auto trans with 6" suspension and a 3" body lift with 35's. I am considering going with 4:56 or 4:88 with a Detroit Trutrac. Keep this in mind I drive mainly around town and on the interstate and the occasional off roading but nothing to bad, my truck is my daily driver. I have done all of the RPM calculators and tire size\gear ratio calculators but I'd like to hear some real world experience, such as what RPM are fellow Tacoma owners seeing at 70 mph with 4:56's or 4:88's?

Come on guys I know some of you have regeared. Just looking for some real world numbers for RPM's for them and MPG's if y'all have them.

There are more than enough threads on here about gears. I'm sure of it.

    But......
4.56 for 35s and you will be as close to stock. 4.88 is to tall of a gear for 35s. Made more for 37s.

My truck with 4.88 and 35s. at 60 mph, the rpm is at 2200. With my phone and a mph app. It shows I'm actually going 68.mph

I haven't calculated the mpg after being regear so i wouldn't be able to give an answer on that

2200 for 68 mph is about where you would want to be right? What is a stock tacoma turning at 70 mph with stock tires? As of now I'm turning around 1800 rpm @ 70, with mph figured from gps not speedo. I'm figuring I'm wanting to be around 2400-2500 @ 70 mph in overdrive, do you disagree? 400 rpm difference doesn't seem like that big of a jump from 3:73 to 4:88's with 35's.

Looks like 4:56's are the way to go. Just did a little more digging on here and found this from another member.

(EATABULLETcom) With stock gears and 35's at 65mph I was at 2500 - 3000 rpm cuz the tranny would down shift out of overdrive at the slightest incline. Now with 4.56's I'm at 2000 - 2500 and it will stay in overdrive on a good size incline. I was impressed and mpg's are better than at stock.

That is currently the same issue I'm having is on the interstate it struggles to maintain 70 if its windy or on inclines, it will down shift to the passing gear every time.

I'm considering them or Yukon but haven't quite decided yet. Have you been happy with the Nitro's so far? How many miles have you put on them? It looks like you do some wheeling so they must hold up to the punishment. I read somewhere if you go with the Nitro's that you can use the factory flange, is that true?

Happy with them so far no issues. I have about 20K miles on them. Yea I have done some wheeling with them. Make it so much better not to use so much clutch. Yes, Yotamaster re install the factory flange.

Maybe? Once I get 37s, then I'll be able to compare the 4.88s with 35's and 37s

The research I looked at with Yukon and others says the flange has to be replaced because it has a different # of splines.

Alright guys, I'm new at this:
    I have a 2014 Tacoma Dbl Cab 4x4 Short Bed V6 Auto.
I just ordered some 33" Cooper Discover ST Maxx Tires and I mounted them on some 16x8.5 MB TKOs. This is my first build, I went with a Rough Country block and spacer 3" lift kit, so nothing too crazy. My question is whether or not I need to consider regearing my tranny. I use my truck as a daily driver, I'm in the military and will be moving a lot through my career, but i also do a fair amount of offroading. Any input is appreciated. thanks. I can post pictures probably tomorrow or friday.
