bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
That looks like a fairly conventional setup...I have new rear shoes on order and I thought for my 60k maintenance, I would pull the drums for the first time. I also like inspecting with replacement parts handy. FYI Wagner Thermoquiet from Rock Auto.

I got the truck into the shop. The parts will be in tomorrow. I hate to spend he $ but I was in over my head. I am confident I could remove the drums and clean and lube the brakes now, but after seeing them, I'll leave them for another year. As for my front brakes, I need to replace the caliper on the driver's side as the pistons are pretty rusted and aren't moving very freely.

Glad to see you didn't drive it. I almost shit when I saw the adjuster yoke end and both springs not on.

That's an easy fix for the pros though, I can't imagine they'll drain your wallet for that fix. :)

BTW, that big chunk of metal is the drum balance weight.... IIRC

I guess that's the difference between you guys that file IFR and us guys that run around underneath ;) She made it to the shop ok (Kodiak is a small town with pretty slow speed limits so I figured it wouldn't be too catastrophic). Do I need to somehow re-attach that balance weight? I can't figure out how it was even holding on in the first place.

Those weights are spot-welded on. To be honest I have seen them come off and never cause any issues.

Drum brakes are not that difficult to work on after you've done it once. When I first did a brake job on drums, I did as a previous poster said, take off one side at a time, and compare your work with the other side. I have what I call the "brake pliers" that you use to remove & replace the springs. That tool is over 40 years old, and I thought I'd never use it again until I bought my truck.
