I am doing this same mod. There are several bits of info that I have found online related to this. I feel confident that it should work because the harness for the steering wheel controls is in my dash behind the radio. It should be as simple as replacing the steering wheel and clock spring. I am also adding the Bluetooth controls on the right side of the steering wheel. Once all of the parts are here and I get time to do it, I will confirm if it all worked for me. Also, I paid nowhere near what the guy in the following thread did for his parts.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/au...ed-steering-wheel-audio-controls-my-08-a.html

I found a great condition used leather wheel w/airbag for $351 shipped, the Bluetooth buttons for $80 shipped, ribbon cable for $20 shipped, and an aftermarket clock spring for $31 shipped. A lot of people don't like non-OEM clock springs, but the one I found gets excellent reviews. That is $482 total, and I plan to sell the old air bag for $250, wheel for $100, and used clock spring for $100. If I can get those prices, the upgrade should be well worth the effort.

Planning on doing the same thing to my '05. Most expensive part is the clock spring. OEM is $300+, China ebay is $50+, not sure if I'm ready to go that route though.

    Edit-
Bought my steering wheel controls from a salvage yard for cheap. I was told not to buy the clock spring from a truck that had the airbags deployed, something melts inside. Its hard to find a truck at a salvage yard that hasn't had the bags deployed, and if you do the people usually want to to buy the steering wheel with airbag. $$$

Cruise control is not on the steering wheel. Don't forget that thing has an air bag in it and an after market wheel won't.

I have a 2007 sr5 prerunner and have left volume and radio control. Right, no buttons, but the cruise control module. (Behind wheel)

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I also planned to do this mod. So over the past weekend, I got it done! I can say with certainty that the Chinese clock spring I bought on ebay works flawlessly, only $30 as opposed to the $200+ cost of an OEM one. The buttons for bluetooth and audio were easily installed on the wheel. The only part of the entire experience that made me nervous was the airbag installation, but it is rather simple. I wouldn't hesitate to do it all again. My suggestion to anyone thinking of upgrading their base steering wheel is this: don't buy all of your parts from a dealer. Check out the junk yards and ebay. This can be an inexpensive project if you exercise patience and frugality when assembling your parts.
