So I have searched and searched for an answer but I only seem to find posts referring to a Double Cab whereas I have an Extended Cab. A friend installed my PL8521 Pop & Lock power tailgate lock and I have a question. He followed the instructions using the Blue w/Red(pink) and Blue w/Black wires and the lock works just fine except that it unlocks on the first pulse (driver side door) of my Extended Cab. Is there wiring that would only unlock the PL8521 on the second pulse (passenger side door) so the actuator will not switch unnecessarily and possibly wear out prematurely?

Yes.... wire it up to the passenger side and it will unlock with two clicks of the remote.
check out my write-up here. you can see the wires I tapped into.
