I recently sold my 1997 T100 Extended Cab 4x4, 100,000 miles, zero issues. Needless to say, I regret selling it.

I plan on buying a new 2015 Tacoma Extended Cab, 4x4 within a month or two.

Opinions, please on comparison of the new Tacoma with the old T100, which was an excellent riding/driving truck?

The Tacoma is going to have more power and more creature comforts and just feel a bit more modern. If you liked your T100, you'll love the Tacoma.

I appreciate both responses. Is the new Tacoma about the same size as the old T100? I've not been able to find that information on Google.

There are different configurations to the tacoma that affect the overall size so the size will really depend on what package you buy. That being said if you have owned the T100 you know the size of that and you must have seen plenty of Tacomas driving around to compare to?

Personally I think you will be disappointed with the fit and finish of the Tacoma. While I never owned a T100, I did have a mid'90s Camry and IMO the quality of the interior components from that era was way above what is being put in the current Tacoma. Heck, even the interior of my 2000 Jeep was/is nicer than my new Tacoma.

If you can stomach the mileage, step up to a Tundra. From what I could tell the interior is MUCH nicer in those.

The Tacoma will will have advantages over the T100 in every aspect.
Better driving, more power, and SLIGHTLY better MPG.

The only down side you will have with it is if they still put the
BFG Rugged Terrain tires on them. They do the truck no justice at all off road. Sell them while new and get a better tire. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

    You will love the Tacoma.

Right, I will test drive a Tacoma, but haven't found a nearby dealer with one in stock. I'll branch out and find one soon. No doubt, I'll have to order one, since the dealers say most are sold before they arrive on the lot.

I went from a 1995 T 100 SR5 to a 2011 DCSB 4x4. I was comfortable in the T 100 with many things because I drove it everyday and I was used to the seats that had lost cushion and the front end that had gotten loose and several other small issues that a 15 year old truck will have. I got in the new 2011 and fell in love again with a new vehicle. I have a 2015 on the way and I'm sure I will love it too.
While I love the new trucks I have to say that they are not of the build quality that my T 100 was. It's nothing blatant that I can point to but right away I had the feeling that it was a cheaper truck. The T 100 was built like a tank and I abused the hell out of it and it took all I had to give. The new Tacoma is lighter and that might be why I think it feels cheaper. While I say that it feels cheapeR I love the hell out of my 2011 and it is a great truck with nice features and plenty of power.

I bought a new '94 T100, 4x4, V6, regular cab and drove it for 130 kmiles. In that time it got head gaskets (recall), a couple of timing belts, plugs, an oxygen sensor and a speedometer cable. Overall, a pretty reliable machine. Bought a 3 year old Tacoma a couple of years ago. I don't think it is going to measure up to the T100. The transfer case actuator is causing problems. There are a couple of other design problems--for example tire chains cannot be used on the front axle. Given what else is out there, I don't know of a better choice, though, considering all factors.

First post here...I bought a '96 T100 SR5 4x4 with 74K, had it for 12 years and sold it at 255K. I absolutely loved that truck. Went all over the Colorado Plateau and Great Basin. I only had funds for either a 4cyl 4x4 or Pre-runner V6 and went with the 4. I love the Tacoma, but it is quite a bit smaller than the T100, so now I have to work to get all my stuff loaded when I head to the hills (lots of telescope stuff).

more cup holders then the t100, more power, more comfortable front seat(imo), shittier quality bed. imo, the t100 feels stiffer riding, steering, and 3.0 or 3.4 in those seem way more gutless than the 3.4 that came in tacos.
The t100 could fit a 15" rim, 16" rim is the smallest you can fit on the front of a 6lug tacoma. Both you can fit 265/75r16 stock, which would be comparable to a 31x10.50r15.

the t100 bed probably has more space than the tacoma, but tacoma has storage space in it.
you can use the same oil filter that was being used in the t100.
tacoma will probably feel weird at first, but you'll grow to like it if you're a toyota guy.

The new Tacomas are pretty much the same dimensions as the 1st gen Tundra (Tundra is 3" wider) wheelbase, length height are pretty much exact match...though the tacos seem smaller when you look at them! Should be fairly close to the T-100 as they were almost as big as the 1st gen Tundras. When I have driven the new Tacos they are about the same feel as driving my Tundra....right at home right out of the gate. They do feel smaller in the cab due to the width, but a pretty close match. If you liked the T100 you should like the Taco!
