So I received a service notice for... drum roll please, my Tacoma's frame rails. Currently they don't seem so bad as I've done a lot to try and keep them in good shape.

This service is good until March 2016. Is this something I should put off for another two winters to see if they get worse or should I do it immediately? Should I prep my frame rails or something first? Hit them with a wire wheel? I'm concerned all the dealer will do is spray them with chassis paint and they will continue to rust inside out.

I have two co-workers with '06 and '07 Tacomas. The '06 had a big enough hole to get a new frame. The '07, though it had a lot of surface rust (no paint left), had no holes so they coated it with that anti-corrosive compound.

Look near the cats, but I doubt you have any holes given you barely have rust. They'll just coat it if that's the case.

EDIT: I think once they coat it, they give you a 15-year warranty on frame rust issues.

OP, your frame looks really good for the age, and where you live. If you want to wait to have a coating done, you can do that, but I don't think it would rust out in two years. Also, there is no extended warranty after you have had the LSC done.

They do little to no prep from what I have seen and my friend who is a tech at a dealer. Some just came back due the coating falling off after a year or so on some previous campaigns for the other models which got the frame coating.

Overall it is a joke to hide the issues they have with poor frame coatings. I have not see a picture here yet of coatings that were done where they pulled the bed to properly coat the truck as illustrated in the campaign manual.

Your frame is in good shape as stated for being in IN. I would prep what you can yourself before taking in if you plan to keep the truck and care about it.

That frame looks really nice. I wouldn't worry about having any issues with that in the near future, but if it was mine I would start taking better care of it right now before it goes down hill. I have a 2010 with a clean frame and just got it treated with Krown locally for 139.00 We will see how it holds up. I also have an 07 that had a lot of surface rust, I started treating that one with Fluid Film to try and salvage it in case it passes the inspection. The Fluid Film is very impressive, I used 6 cans over the summer and that frame looks great. Someone in Buffalo N.Y.is selling a Tacoma that recently passed the frame inspection, and had the CRC done to it. He is claiming in the ad that the frame now has a new 10 year and 100K additional warranty ? Anyone hear anything about that ? Thanks.

There is not an extended warranty after the coating. Even with a new frame or the coating your warranty is 10 years/100K from the date the vehicle was purchased new.

Do you have a copy of this campaign manual? I might need that when I go for an undercoating.

It has been posted in two of the larger threads about frame recall or CRC campaign coating cant remember which. I do not have it personally.
