So I sold my red 2006 V6 double cab several years ago and have been driving a 2000 4x4 extended cab 4 cyl 5speed. Its awesome, love the 4-low, plus it runs perfect and never gives me any trouble at all. The body is great but not so nice that I don't have to worry about beating it around a bit. The downside is that its not real comfortable and gas mileage is just ok. I came upon a nice 08 extended cab with another 4 cyl engine coupled with a 5 speed. I know that I like the looks and interior feel of the 08 better but I need some advise on everything else.

Were there any significant improvements to the engine over that 8 years? Looks like mpg is suppose to be better(anyone know for sure)? Also is the gearing changed at all? Anything else I am missing between the two as far as the nuts and bolts/performance?

Only 2 years.... they're gonna be just about the same in terms of engine & gas mileage. Nothing had changed between those years.

Your 06 was a double cab and the 08 is an access cab..... so there's less weight involved. Hardly enough to notice a difference.

Drivetrain & engine stayed the same from 2005- current.

x2. Any differences will be negligible.

Sorry, read the whole thing. I have a 2000 4 cyl now. The 2006 reference was just for the people that might be confused since I was on here a lot back when I had that one.

Not sure on exact facts, but I had a 2002 reg cab 4cyl 5spd & it was slow as hell. My brother in law just bought a 2013 dcsb 4 cyl automatic and it WAAYY peppier. I would venture to say that when Toyota upgraded the v6 in 2005, they probably upgraded the 4cyl a little bit too. Just my thoughts:notsure:
