I got into some super thick muddy creek crossing out hunting this year. The water was about to my tacoma emblems on the side, now my truck is making a weird winding noise. Almost like a super quiet supercharger, it makes it when accelerating or just idling, or if I rev the engine in neutral. Any ideas of what it could be?

Get a rubber hose and place one end in your ear and use the other end like a stethoscope to pinpoint the noise. Could be an idler pulley bearing as stated above or it could be the alternator.

A long flathead screwdriver with the tip pressed up against the areas in question works much better for noise amplification purposes.

So if it is an idler pulley how would I go about fixing this? Or what would I do if it's the alternator?
