Has anyone ever used speedi sleeves on rear axles? If so any part #s or sizes? I am having a problem with a leaking rear axle seal, when i installed a new seal i noticed a very small groove on the race part of the axle that goes to the seal. I cant find a part # for 2nd gen tacomas speedi seal anywhere. I can find listings for 1 st gens # 99147 but not sure if its the same for an 06. Any help very much appriciated.:D

You have to measure the outside diameter of your axle shaft with a vernier caliper to determine the speedy sleeve you need . I have never used a speedy sleeve on a rear axle mind you .I am not sure if there is a speedy sleeve tool available thats deep enough to get to the axle groove .

Years ago ,they use to make axle saver bearings ,but I have searched and they are not available for Tacomas . I beleive you have 2 choices . Replace the axle or use as michrometer and find a replacement axle seal with a double lip seal

Yeah thats my other option but wanted to avoid pulling the axle to measure it, was hoping some one has done this and had a measurement or part #. Looks like axle replacement but its pricey! Thanks gearcruncher

I doubt you have pull your axle back out . Just ask the members to take some measurements of the inside/ outside diameter of the seal and the outside diameter of the axle .I am sure there is a double lip seal available for these critters . The number on the axle seal is easy to cross reference

Same thing happened on the rear axle of my old ford ranger. If the groove is shallow enough, you may be able to have it 'buffed out'. Basically they smooth it out. It bought me a lot of time for very little cash. A new rear axle (just one side) for my fx4 level II ranger was $700-ish. Never did replace it, the fix lasted the rest of the time I owned the truck. Just realize you are on borrowed time. I realize this is not what you asked but it may be helpful, anyway. Good luck

Thanks guys, been searching everything and can not find a double lipped seal or a speedi sleeve that fits by application. Im wondering if a littte jb weld in the groove, then smoothing it in will work?? but don't wanna put another set of brake shoes in lol

Why don't you just fix it right? That would make the most sense
