SR5 to TRD Offroad.

Last Year I leased a 2014 SR5 Tacoma. It was a last minute forced to make a call purchase. If I had my way I would have had a TRD Offroad. With that being said can you take an SR5 and turn it into a TRD Offroad. Is it hard? is the list long? is there a thread that is buried somewhere that a newb isn't going to find easily? what does the TRD Offroad have that the SR5 does not? Would appreciate all the help that I can get. Thanks.

If it's leased, im pretty sure you'd need the OK from toyota to put a locker in it.

Your going to mod a leased vehicle?

 

OP: why would you put money in a leased vehicle? burn up the lease then buy. Leasing only makes sense a) if you are a business and want a fixed expense. b) are grandma who drives 7500 miles a year, or c)want to drive more vehicle than you can afford.

I used to lease like back in'85 when it was all tax deductible. no advantages now except c).

 

Tacomas are hold their value so well, leasing makes sense to some.
... if you plan on buying out the residual.

Humm better seats are questionable. I had a 2010 SR5 PreRunner & 2014 PreRunner. The seats in the 2010 SR5 with the velour were 10 times more comfy than the sport style seats in my '14 Off Road.

As far as the wheels, they are the same unless you have an SR5 with steel wheels. Off-Roads are basically an SR5, but with the extra arsenal of Off-Road goodies like A-Trac, locker and don't quote me, but I think Hill Decent Control is also an Off-Road, Baja, TRD-Pro feature as well??

I know, I know, I've tried it with lumbar and without, and that metal bar that slightly protrudes at the bottom of the seat back still gouges into my lower back. Didn't notice that on my 2010 SR5, 2014 Base, but I do with the sport seats in my '14 Off-Road.

Right now I've temporarily got a couch pillow wedged in between my lower back and the seat until I can find a better solution.

Wish I could swap in a Recaro seat for the driver side.

 

The solution is trade your TRD seats for sr5.

 

See, I find the TRD seats way more comfortable than the non TRD seats. I felt that the non were more like bench seats instead of supportive bucket seats.

Of course comfort, is something that is relative to the person.

 

My 2011 did the same exact thing. Horrible. But, the new is at least padded and I don't have a steel bar gouging L4/5.
I wish moar also. I don't plan on putting up with the seats long. They arent horrible and not worth bitching about but, soon.....soon
