It looks like I will be moving soon (2 hours away, 3 bdrm house) and, of course, I want to use my AC Taco for some stuff (there will be a large moving van, either self U-Haul, or commercial).

Any tricks to maximize the space on the bed for household stuff?

Rent a light U-Haul trailer one way to increase capacity?

Think you answered your own question.

You would be surprised on how much shit we collect in one house after so many years

Just moved 800mls on Friday - all in the taco (try to sell whatever you don't want to keep for long) Cash can be moved so much easier than a couch :)

I have always gone this route since the trailers give you a lot more space and the low floors make it much easier to load than a truck bed. If you are going longer distances or hauling anything heavy with your truck I would recommend getting the largest trailer. They are the only dual axle and tow much better, plus they have pulse brakes and are not much more expensive. I have moved an entire 1 BR apartment 800 miles with just the trailer and a truck, tight fit but it works.

    Stock for now
    Rent an enclosed Utility trailer

Use your truck bed too & secure the load.
The inside of the cab for breakables but the plastic interior scratches easily.
    Good luck

Quick advice .... It's easiest for you and your helpers to load the truck from over the side. After, however, you'll probably find lots of scratches on the side of the bed from zippers, buttons, and general rub and scrape marks. Try to get everything loaded through the tailgate - and/or put some protection (i.e. blankets) over the sides of the bed. Preventing is lots easier than fixing.....

My suggestion is layers. Find stuff that fits together in nice layers (maybe buy totes) and stack it up. Then throw a mattress on top to tie it all together and ratchet it down. Helped a friend move last year:

Hahaha I think you're the first one on here to catch that. It was actually a lot more solid than it looks. I have a pic from another angle somewhere.

Looks solid enough to me. I'd have no problem with it.

I know this is not a Taco but here is not a good way to load up your bed....

I took this photo out on the Interstate last Spring. Driver did not have a clue.

I agree with the others, get a small one-way trailer and also load the bed.

I know someone who almost lost an eye because of one of these jerks - mattress came flying through windshield on highway.

I'm pretty sure they fixed that a few years ago... I regularly load my 800lb+ 4 wheeler with my 240lb fat ass into the truck and haven't had a problem yet.

Almost free... well, still over 100 bucks plus the minor stuff that will get tucked in the bill.

A few years ago, I rented a big U-Haul truck for less than half that, same route ( I am just finishing a move spread over a few years...:))
