Some 2015 Tacomas are missing some of the wires in the 14 pin mirror plug!

I don't have a Tacoma, but lots of mirrors!
    Hi everyone,

Now that some of you are getting the 2015 trucks, I have been getting inquiries about adding the very popular Gentex autodim compass temp homelink mirrors to these trucks just like many of you added to your 2014 models.

However, I found out from a few people that Toyota has left out one of the wires on the mirror plug.

So far about 60% of people I've dealt with had all of the wires in the 14 pin mirror plug, those being the green ignition wire, the red battery wire, and the white wire with black stripe for ground.

However, the remainder have found out that Toyota has left out the red battery wire from the mirror wiring harness! (Can we say cost cutting????)

Anyhow - can still add a Homelink mirror. However, this changes the installation a bit, and you have two options.

First option is that the Homelink mirrors can be wired in such a way so that ignition power is sent to both the mirror circuit and the Homelink buttons. What this means is you can then only use the Homelink when the truck's ignition is on instead of all the time.

The other option is to send ignition power to the mirror circuit, but then run a separate battery wire from the mirror to a nearby constant hot wire and tap into it. Doing so will allow you to then operate the Homelink buttons at all time.

Again...this doesn't seem to be affecting all 2015's. I haven't determined if it's later production models that didn't have it, or if it depended on which plant it was made at (if these are made in more than one plant, I don't know), or what. But nonetheless, if you decide you want to add any sort of Homelink mirror, check your wiring first to see what's in there.

Otherwise if you wish to add a mirror that does not have Homelink, then this is not an issue, as only Homelink mirrors usually have constant power going to them in addition to ignition power.

    Regards,
    Bob Prim

Interesting. My 2015 Sport was manufactured 8/14 and I had the 14 pin plug.

Bob, I'm sure you have the same 14 pin plug, but does IT have the red wire ?

I ordered the mirror kit from Bob today and I have confirmed that I have the plug with the 3 wires. Here is my truck information for reference:

2015 Tacoma DBL Cab TRD Sport 4X4 with JBL audio and the Tacoma Package.
Build date is 10/2014 Baja California

I believe it does, see attached pic. Plus the mirror Bob sold me plugged in and worked fine. Autodim, temp, compass and homelink.

Where do you find this wire? Because I have just a basic regular mirror in my 2015 Sport

Hey guys, just to clarify, the missing red wire I am referring to is on the factory wiring harness, not what we supply with the mirrors.

On all 2014's the 14 pin plug above the overhead console will have three wires - green, red, and white with a black stripe.

On some 2015's it is the same, but I've now dealt with about a half dozen 2015 owners where their trucks only have the green ignition wire and the white/black ground wire, but no red battery wire. So it looks like Toyota is doing the same thing they did with the 09-12 trucks - on those, like the 2015's, some have the battery wire in the mirror plug, some don't...no rhyme or reason to it.

It's above the overhead console. All trucks that have the overhead console/sunglasses holder will have the mirror harness, those that do not have an overhead console will not have this harness.

Sorry I thought that was the factory wiring. I looked but do not have a pic of the 3 wire harness.

Wow that is way to much work for me, not handy enough to do all that.

    Hey fellas,

I have a '15 DCLB TRD Sport RWD PreRunner. I had all three wires. I opted for the mirror with backlit buttons, white LED on the bottom, and white compass (no temp). Install took about 5 minutes, granted, I didn't have to wire up the temp probe.

I recently wrecked my 2009 that had the temp/compass in the overhead console. I retained the console from my 2009 TRD Off Road version and hope to insert this temp/compass gauge in the 2015 console (SR5 Prerunner, not TRD), but the connector on the 2009 harness is a 10 pin adapter with 8 wires inserted into the base plug. The 2015 came with a 14 pin adapter. Does anyone know how I can change the 10 plug adapter (2009 model) to the 14 pin plug on the new harness.

The 2015 has 3 wires in its 14 pin plug/adapter. The sending unit near the front grill has two wires coming out of it, a grey on and purple. HELP...
