So I found this at sema this year at the Leer booth and I like the way this looks. Asked the guy from leer and he said it was custom made but didn't say the company. I'm wondering if someone makes a rack like this or something close that goes over the topper because it gives the truck a rugged look. I took a bunch of pics in case I want to weld it up but I only have a welder and a couple tools and don't know how nice I could get it to look, thanks for any help.

I cant think of names right now, But there are a few companies out there that make this sort of rack to fit with a shell.

Similar to a Kargomaster but that rack indeed looks custom made

Just got a 15 dc long bed trd sport, buying the rackit racks in a few days. I thought only cab height caps worked with those racks but obviously you are running the 180cc. Is it a tight fit? Can you take the cap on/off with the racks on? Also, I was going to install the racks myself, any pointers? Much appreciated.

Just checked the site out (shoulda done that first), I'm getting the modular (not fully welded) as I'm having it shipped. I can't imagine the modular vs. fully welded would make any difference with cab height though.

It is snug but the center and rear bars are removable so the shell can be installed. What RackIt does not say is that you can order a rack pretty much any height you need, so mine is a few inches taller than stock to accommodate the extra height of my 180cc shell. The dealer just needs to tell RackIt what height to make the rack. And if you have not already ordered the rack, spend the extra to get the Aluminum version, it is about 85 pounds versus well over 200 for the steel.

Awesome thank you for the info. Did you have to notch the inside lip of the shell to accommodate the rack mounts, or do you know if you can get it without a lip? The guy at cap world seems skeptical about it, but I have seen pictures of it, and obviously you have the same setup. Any chance you have any pictures of your setup? Once again, thank you very much for the help, much appreciated.

You can order the Leer with the entire lip removed, that is what I did. If the dealer notches the lip and a crack develops, they may void the warranty. Then again, find a quality dealer that knows what they are doing and they will just notch it for you. The dealer I originally ordered my rack and shell at so screwed it up the rack had to be replaced. And they gave me incorrect information both pre and post sale.

Not the best photo, but all I could find right now. All my other pics have the stock wheels on.

I like the Leer, but wish I had gone with the SnugPro. I let Campways talk me out of it, only to find out later they were steering me toward what they wanted to sell versus what I wanted. My one big complaint with the Leer is that water tends to run into the shell when one of the hatches is open. If you go with a Leer, you can order it with the Bolt locks on the T-Handles. So you can code the shell locks to your ignition key. I have one key for the truck, the shell, and the tailgate. With the Aluminum RackIt rack, I never have to worry about rust.

If you get the commercial racks , and in the case of the Leer the commercial version for the reinforced roof , you may not need an external rack , I haul up to 20' lumber on my 100RCC

First thought was RyderRacks, and it still could be. They will do custom one-offs.

For the over-the-cab style rack, Kargomaster was always my first choice when you looked at the style, features, and overall cost. Model for a Tacoma would be the Pro III. Sold their equipment for 12 years.

If you decide top call Rackit, talk to Robert. They do some different things if needed that the dealers don't always tell you about.
