I've been thinking of making a rack that goes from half the bed to the roof and possibly with a light bar. Just need ideas of how it would look.

Doesn't mount in the bed, but looks great on both the access cab and the double cab. I may be a little biased though. Interested to see what you come up with. I never have been a fan of the body armor one shown though.

Yea I'm planning on mounting the light bar in front of the bar on the rack that goes up to the windshield instead of the top if it

That was originally my plan. The fear of glare off the hood and the desire for a functional wind deflector led me to put the light bar up higher and further back. This way it sits lower than the rack platform itself but tucked back far enough that there is no glare off my hood.

I like the way that rack is made....im starting to think of making it like that for the top and weld the bars to the back of that rack down about half way of the bed

Won't you have to worry about flex?

If i do do it that way I'll just make some brackets that bolt on the roof, where the other roof racks originaly go mounted on, as an extra way of support

I think he may have meant that if you bolt it to the bed of the truck and bolt it to the roof the flex of the cab and bed at different rates will cause some major damage. Although they are both bolted to the frame they do move a little differently. If you bolt the rack to the bed I would make it strong enough to cantilever over the cab.

There are a few members on the forum that have done this, but if you google Tacoma chase rack or back rack roof rack combo you can find some images of what your looking for.

I have been compiling pictures of doing this for a while as I want a bedrack, but I need the versatility of having to load the bed with bigger items. Therefore almost like a chase rack. Best pics I can get at the moment from google, is this what your talking about?

Ohh ok yea i forgot about that. I'm pretty sure a plate triangle on each corner should give enough support for some weight instead of bolting it on to the roof
