An additional bonus to sliders is protection in parking lots from doors. If they are too close to the vehicle, you lose this, as well as the step function. I didn't want them to stick out as far as some vendors make them, and yet maintain function on/off road. No regrets other than getting steps up front. Wife thought they were nuts up front, but we've all worked very well with them.

Yeah, a bit pricey but cheaper than getting into paint/door dings. Another thing I really like is that they sit high and don't hang down compared to other sliders I've seen.

I just messaged Dwreck about the Famous Fab ones that you have on your build Kelly. I like those quite a bit. Do they protect really well from door dings? The wind here is terrible and I'm kind of worried about that part of it. The dealer is trying to sell me on some door protection thing that adds a little color matched thing to the doors on each side and I'm a little skeptical on it.

So far so good on dings (knocking on wood). I didn't like the door protection strips. Wife has them and they are still chipped from dings if they are the same thing as you are looking at.

Thanks fore the pics...looks like they would do good for rocker protection from down under and still not be leg bangers getting in and out of the truck!

I have the Famous Fabrication sliders as well and have yet to get a door ding. I coated them with Line-X so they'll take the paint off the other car's doors long before they chip.

Side note: DWreck went on a building hiatus last year and I'm not sure if he's back in the fab business. If he is or has a spare set, I highly recommend them!

Yeah I found his thread about his fabs. It seems like he's still not building and has a pretty decent line built up of people that want some before me lol. I found Eddy from SOS and his sliders seem to have a pretty good review on them. A lot of people recommended them and they are bolt on with no drilling which is what I want. Probably going to get a pair from him and just see if I'll want some from DWreck if he ever comes back haha.

Looks very nice! If the steps are off, does a car door hit the slider before it hits your door? Hard to tell if they stick out past the door bulges. Definitely the type I am looking for, would run them without the steps.

which brings up a new question... what is the best finish for sliders on a street / beach truck?
    - bed liner
    - have them painted at a automotive paint shop
    - have them powder coated

(im not going to DIY for finishing these sliders, id much rather just pay someone)

i feel like the bed-liner makes sense but washing them and having it peel may be an issue... paint would be slippery and prone to a lot of chips... im figuring powder coating is prob the way to go... what do you guys think?

The sliders don't stick out past the door bulges, close to being even with them though.

I definitely wouldn't pay to have them painted because you'll have to pay to get them touched up if someone opens a car door into them. Powder coating would be tougher but may still get marked up from a good car door hit.

I paid $75 to have mine shot with Line-X in Florida (before mounting). I love the way they look. It has a lifetime warranty and they'll respray if it peels or chips. Probably have to pay a little to respray if I ground it off sliding over a rock but any wear from standard use is definitely covered. IMO, this is the cheapest, most durable professional coating.

If you do go with Line-X, take a careful look at surfaces that mate with your frame. I had them tape off the mating surfaces because the tolerances on my FF sliders were so close and the "U" bracket that wraps around the frame would never fit if the inside was sprayed. After I got them back, I just primed and shot the mating surfaces with flat black rattle can.

As far as washing the rough surface, I generally use an automatic carwash with no issues. When hand washing, I lightly go over them and they clean up fine without tearing up the microfiber sponge/glove...press hard and you can shred a regular sponge pretty easily. A hard bristle brush would work great too but I've had no issues with regular microfiber sponge.

I just ordered mine last night as well. I'm super excited for them to come in. When the time comes I'll be coming back here for paint suggestions I think lol. Also, going to pick up the truck this afternoon. So ready for the fun that this thing is going to bring me. Thank you guys for all the help so far and much much more to come. :D
