Wrong. The crime is called hit and run.

Since nobody was injured and there was only property damage it is a misdemeanor. Misdemeanor hit and run can carry steep penalties. If you are convicted, you may face a fine up to $1,000... or even a sentence of up to six months in county jail.

Granted, this is under CA Vehicle Code section 20002, but I have to believe that hit and run is illegal in every other state... and that cop is a lazy douche who didn't want to be bothered to do his JOB.

I get a check from my insurance company every year as well, though I also have USAA.

They recently paid for damage to my truck when I was rear ended and the other driver blamed me, and of course his insurance company refused to pay. That was in May, USAA is still hashing it out with Farmers but my truck is as good as new. OK, maybe better with the plate bumper.......
