I brought my Tacoma in for it's first 5000 mile service today. When I left the vehicle the key to my wheel locks was in my glove compartment - 100% sure of this.

Several hours later I picked the vehicle up and took it home. It wasn't until I was in the garage that I remembered to check and make sure the wheel lock key was returned. I checked every nook and crany, but no key. I called the dealership (40 minutes later got a hold of my service assoc.) and told them my key was missing.

They told me the tech. used a key from their set, not mine. After some back and forth with me insisting that the key was in the glove compartment the dealership said they'd order and ship me a new key.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

My mind is pretty suspicions of people, so my first thought is that the tech at the dealership is stealing every 10th or 20th key he comes across and making his one "kit".

No, I can't say I've ever had it happen.
And there are easier ways to get a wheel lock key than steal it from a customer. I don't naturally take to thinking everyone is filled with bad intentions. I still have faith in the majority of people. Even when things go wrong.

At least the dealership is fixing the issue.

Yeah, but just shows you how shitty the dealer's maintenance dept's really are!!!
I thought Mitsubishi service had a bad reputation!!! From some of the things I have read here lately about some Toyota dealership's not putting oil in trucks after changing the oil to this losing the wheel lock key!! Really!! I will prob end up doing my own maintenance at this point..

Did you check on the factory lug wrench? That's where mine is. It's on a little tab.

Did you give them a heads up that the lock was in the box? If so , odds are they didnt steal it, but DID forget to put it back.

At the end of the day they are doing the right thing by you.
