well... i have had both. took me under 2 weeks to roll my 4runner, BUT i have to give the 4runner its due, it was upside down for a good 10-15 minutes before we got out and got settled AND IT WAS STILL RUNNING, LOL! upside down! i special ordered a new one, when they were unloading it off the truck my 'now' tacoma was also on the truck. i bought the tacoma, much happier, corners great on the road, with upgraded suspention rides better than any 4runner, and has been through hell and back and is stable off-road.

a friend also was at about 55-60mph in a brand new limited 4runner, swerved had to miss a jeep pulling out and slammed the break!!! it rolled FORWARD! no joking, i saw it happen!

4runners are pretty, great vehicles! really, really, really nice and comfortable! but if you want something to use... tacoma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife drives a '14 4Runner limited, and the MPG isn't that great since the limited is full time 4 wheel drive. The thing takes off tho, especially around corners with the AWD. Suspension is pretty squishy.

    That's why I have one. If I didn't need a truck though I'd have a 4runner.

Not for the 5th gen 2010-2015. Try are still without a supercharger and it is a very sore subject for those guys.

Dur read it as older meaning newer. I was just confused because we were talking about the dual vvti which I believe is only in the 5th gen 4runner. 4th gens only got the VVTI.

Has anyone ever done or seen a 1GR-FE Dual VVTi engine swap into a 2nd gen? What would need to be done to get it to work?

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
A boatload of money, time and dedication. Interchangeability no longer exists in the automotive world sad to say.

Sooooo? Are the 4th gen and the 2nd gen 4.0 the same motor I'm confused on which generations we are discussing. I have an 03 4.0 4runner and an 05 4.0 Taco.

I believe the 4Runner had received the Dual VVT-i 4.0 by then and 2ng gen Tacomas have same motor but with VVT-i 4.0. Maybe wrong though.

    --- edit--

OOOOPPS! guess i was wrong, sorry about that! :)

That's what I thought but my wife's 4runner does seem to run a little smoother than my Taco but I figured it has a lot to do with the tires. I run a more aggressive tread.

This, and it shares very little in common with the old engine at all.
