For the past couple of weeks, I've been enduring an issue that I can't figure out. I have now tried two different climate control consoles for my 09 Tacoma and both will not turn the A/C off. Last week, I posted on here that I had to get a new console but the one I got off ebay wouldn't switch off the A/C after pushing the A/C button. So I returned it and got another one today but the same problem is happening so I know now it's my truck that's the problem. This isn't a defrost issue, by the way.

Does anyone know of a way to get the A/C to reset and turn off? Is this a matter of disconnecting the battery or doing some kind of reset? It's freezing here and I'm about to lose it if I can't get this fixed lol.

    Thanks.

my AC on, with heat on, provides dry bacon-frying heat, not cold air, so i am not sure what the problem is with temperature...

anyhow, a/c stuck on forever is ...I got nothing...

Nope, it's not a defrost thing. No matter what I do the A/C light won't turn off. I get no heat, just A/C. I have been keeping my old console that doesn't work, installed in the truck so I at least don't get the A/C on top of the 20 degree weather here.

I'm going to try and reset the battery and see what that does. I'm so confused. Never heard of anything like this.

Ok, I've disconnected the battery for 10 minutes and it did not change anything. I even took out the fuse to the air conditioner and the air still came out cold after 10 minutes of having the engine on.

Guys, I'm out of ideas here. I don't know enough about the inner workings of the heating/air system to fix this.

    Any ideas?

When you put in a different climate control console, is there any programming that needs to be done to get the new one to work right?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I have tried everything in this thread with no success. With winter setting in I am really wanting to get this fixed. The dealership checked it out but came to the same conclusion I did of a bad control. I changed it out with a used one but the AC still can not be turned off. Anyone have any ideas?

Could be a stuck compressor clutch.

Is that reparable or is a new compressor needed?

You can replace just the clutch.

The A/C Push Button sends a signal to the AC Amplifier via a Gray wire the AC amplifier then provides a ground for the magnetic clutch relay which closes and turns on the magnetic clutch on the compressor.

See this print. It could be several things. Defective AC Amplifier, Ground on the magnetic clutch relay coil...

Check AC lines coming from the compressor, if they are freezing up and you don't hear the compressor click on and off every so often... Clutch...

Clutch is about $100, you will need 8mm socket for the bolt on the front of the compressor, snap ring pliers, socket and breaker bar to loosen the tensioner, some long socket extensions (or similar metal rod) to come from the back of the compressor to put on the back of the pully to tap it loose with a hammer.

Make sure you shim it right if you do end up changing the clutch.

    Eazey peezey!

Before you disassemble the compressor clutch, locate the mag clutch relay in the fuse box and switch it with a different one

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I checked the relay this weekend, unfortunately it was not the culprit. Hopefully I will be able to check the amplifier next weekend.

Are you saying that the clutch is engaged all the time 24/7?

I am going to be checking out the clutch engaging/disengaging today. I thought it was the controls as the temp doesn't change, despite setting, and it seems to behave as though "Max A/C" is selected even when turned to max heat (A/C and recirculate illuminated). I bought a salvage control console but it did not remedy the issue.

I tried the relay as it was an inexpensive possible fix.

The clutch seems to be cycling appropriately and the compressor seems to be strong, pushing cold air as well as it has in the past. I think I am now down to replacing the control panel with a new one or the amplifier.

Put it on Max cold a/c, fan on high. Does air from the vents get warmer?
