Sounds like I need to find a wife. On the other hand, though... truck parts I can't afford!

That's funny. My wife knows there's the price I tell her and the real price. She just laughs and wonders why she even asks. Actually she doesn't even ask anymore. Took about 15 years. Now she just shakes her head. There's a limit though, anything to noticeable ill run it by her:D

x2. Usually, I just go ahead and begin a project and she just walks in on it and gives me the, "What the hell do you even need that for?" and then I rebut with her "need" for things like designer purses and we both just laugh. But for big things like my lift, my bumper, or anything over $300-$400, I give her a fair warning, just so she doesn't flip out. But, to your point, I'm sure some of the $90-$100 purses my fiancee has bought actually were a little more.

It also depends how much money you have available! Big difference if you make $30K or $120k a year if you decide to spend 2.5k on a lift.
I always made/make sure I pay all my bills first, sock away the max for retirement and don't touch my emergency fund for stuff like that - only spend what you have left over AFTER saving and not the other way around.

I can see where this can be an issue if money gets blown on stuff before the basic needs are covered.

i recently bought my taco, and had to justify putting in a lift, with good reason as the stock shocks were nearing the end of their lives.
so i pulled up a quote from the toyota dealership down the way from me, on replacing oem parts, vs after market parts.
the after markets were cheaper, and told her, i can either bring it back to stock, and down the road get a lift, which will cost twice as much, or do the lift now, and save money on things that have to be done anyways.
Trying to do the same with the front bumper..a few of the clips are broken, and is cracked in one spot. a replacement oem bumper is near to the same amount as an arb..so why not spend the extra money and get a new, safer upgrade for the family..haha

Here is my justification: Either you agree with the mods for my Taco, or you can sign the divorce papers right now.

If I want something I throw in the "Safety" argument.

For example: "Honey, I need the plate bumper to protect us and our children from deer or other crazy drivers."

As Brian Fantana put it, "60% of the time, it works every time."

Ive given up trying to justify it with the wife. I just order and deal with the consequences. For example I ordered a relentless dual swingout, new dom sliders, and a 1/4 ifs skid this weekend. The wife wont know till the bill comes but thats ok.

Arb front bumper, warn winch, All Pro rear bumper, OME up front, OME and All Pro Standard in Back, ARB locker, 34 x 10.5 KO2's, 17" Level 8 Trackers, and fancy single piece driveshaft.
To justify the lift - Honey, when you go into labor, nothing will stop us from getting to the hospital in the middle of a blizzard. Without it, we won't make it out of the driveway.

To justify the bumper - After we've gotten out of the driveway, I might need to push some deer, cars, or a cow out of the way to get you to the hospital.

After you get the lift, justifying the sliders should be easy - Honey, I've noticed that you're having a harder time getting into the truck now that it's lifted. These slider steps from Slee are just the thing you need. Only $995!

haha...no wonder there's a 50% divorce rate in this country...some of you guys are a trip.

i allways run every purchase i make by my wife. like stated before, i rely on her to be my voice of reason. we both work hard to have what we have... i dont ask for much so when i ask for something she understands i work hard and doesnt give me any static. i never question any of her purchases b/c i know she's very good with money...there are no worries.

we do have seperate accounts though...i guess that makes it easier. And EVERY man should have a "oh shit account" for rainy days that wife doesnt know about. can be used for emergencys....vacations....car parts...etc.

I do the finances and so she never knows how much stuff really costs. The cashflow is positive each month so it all works out.
