LED behind 4wd switch to illuminate it a bit?

Searched a bunch and saw the option to spend $85 and use a 4Runner switch to get it illuminated in the Taco. Also saw the great looking LED circuit board that the forum member made, bud sadly is no longer available.

In lieu of all that, why wouldn't it be feasible to take a single LED and wire it to power with the interior lights, and just rest it behind that switch? Sure, it wouldn't have the clear plastic "refractor" piece that comes from the 4Runner switch, but since the lettering on the Tacoma switch knob is translucent, j bet enough light would shine through that would at least help guide a hand to the switch in the first place.

The way it is now, I either bang my hand into the vent, or blast my HVAC fan when trying to quickly engage it in the night time lol

Just curious if anyone has tried this simplistic approach or had any reasons why it's not a good idea to try.
