9500 in damages before teardown. Also before analyszing the frame. Frame check hopefully tomorrow. They expect to find at least 1k more in damage after tear down. Frame appears to be "diamond" meaning it is very probable it is bent and damaged , possibly non repairable. Cost of frame and labor is 9k. Blue book is 28k. Looking at possibly 20k in damages if the frame is confirmed damaged beyond repair

USAA is good to deal with. However all ins companies will try to screw you so they dont lose as much money. Hold strong dont let them push you around. My dad took several months fighting w ins company after a drunk driver totaled his MB S600. Finally got what he wanted, which was almost twice their initial offer.

This was about 2300 in damages, a hole addict neighbor hit me when i was parked not in vehicle and left w/o a note. I did some investigating, talked to her dad, confirmed damage on their car and got their company(USAA) to cover all damage. Just got it back today after 1.5 wks of driving a camry rental.

Will do. I took your advice, got the tow truck to pick her up to take her to the Non insurance approved shop.

The shop has a labor rate of 9 dollars more per hour and 5 stars over 30 reviews, no negative reviews ever.

the appraiser from the shop the truck will be at tomorrow has been doing appraisals for 40 years, and confirmed my suspicions of a bent frame. He was very helpful and super informative about the situation.

So far I havent even talked to insurance except initially and to inform them I am taking the car to another shop. I imagine they will start to contact me more frequently when the final estimate comes out with all the damages.

Thanks, I know the owners daughter so I will try and speak to him about the situation. I told them briefly on the phone already that id much prefer a total after seeing how extensive the damage is in the preliminary...

the shop i was towing it from called me when the tow truck showed up, even though I previously arranged it, asking why I was taking the truck..seemed a little pushy...

Frame is for sure bent at front portion. A few inches higher as well. Probable control arm damage. Still no total estimate or deicision. Might hear more tomorrow .

I never ever let anyone drive my truck, that includes my wife.
If I wreck it then it's my fault.

Shop called again, can't thank them enough with how helpful they are. They are going to get USAA out there as soon as possible and try to explain the damage exceeds 20k minimum, and talk about the total loss limit. They alsolet me know if USAA doesn't want to work with me, I can always elect to sell it to a salvage yard where the truck will go for 11-18k, which will provide me with the same value as if they were to cash me out. They would pay 18-20k to me for repairs, and I would then sell the wrecked vehicle for 11-18k . I'm sure they will see this themselves however, and I'm now feeling that the situation is going towards a total.

Another update, appraiser came out and apparently said if its over 12-13k they are just going to call it a total loss. I think the value of the truck wrecked is worth 15-18k so they can sell it at auction and cash me out.

They are going to confirm frame suspicions with measurements next week, and if it is measured as bad as at looks, he said its going to go back to insurance and should be a total loss.

Might be getting a 2013-14 fj cruiser soon..
