I think it's time to start stocking replacement parts for my 2008 and just rebuild it every 20 years or so. The magical 3rd Gen Tacoma is sounding more and more like an overpriced turd every day.

What else is currently using the 2.7? Why not a direct injected 2.5 for the smaller option?

I'd bet 100 dollars it will get the 4-Runners dual VVTI 4.0, reworked a little to make it more serviceable, ie. no cartridge style oil filter. I'll also bet it will be based on the Prado 150 chassis like the 'Runner and Lexus GX-460.

This is the most information I have seen regarding what will be new onthe 2016 Tacoma and from a reliable source, the Wall Street Journal:

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/toyota-to-roll-out-new-tacoma-truck-1417712596

A quote from the article: “The Tacoma will be unveiled to the public at the North AmericanInternational Auto Show in Detroit next month. It will go on sale after July of2015 and include a new engine, transmission, interior and exterior body design.”

The North American International Auto Show starts January 12th, 2015.

Realistically, I expect them to just take the 4Runner's 4.0 and put it into the Tacoma, like they should have done years ago...

Well, if they're saying "new" engine, that's the approach that requires the least effort. I wouldn't hold my breath for more than that, though.

So all the same structure? Sounds like a big refresh and calling it a new truck. Same bull crap they have been pulling on the Camry and Tundra.

What are hoping for structurally? I mean upgraded leaf springs, but anything else?

So far we KNOW it will have the SAME nameplate stamped into the tailgate like the Tundra.

I don't know specifically, but everyone on here complains that it's been the "same ole turd since 2005." Everything underneath is what makes a truck a truck. Sounds like Toyota is just polishing it up like they did in 2012 (granted a little larger scale this time) and that didn't go over well with everyone.

They are going to turn it into a mini tundra. Wait and see.

I agree about what's underneath making a truck matter, but outside of MPG and some payload issues, the same old turd has been pretty solid.

It would be nice if Toyota said at the presser that they know the shortcomings of the last few and have addressed them with X, but that's a pipedream imo.

I agree (as long as the frame corrosion issue is worked out), but I think everyone else and myself included are expecting 'all new' in the true sense.

Of course this is all speculation based on some vague articles.

    We'll see
Yeah they don't admit things like that
