A guy at work just restored this one, pretty sweet. This was the same model and color as my first Toyota. Hell of a truck!!
    Anyone else had one?

There was a white '85 for sale here, freshly restored. Dude wanted $7500 for it. If I wasn't in the market for a Jeep as a play toy I would've been all over it. The black one on Back To The Future is such a badass truck.

I had one! Bought it in Dec. of 1979, had every option you could get at the time. Gave just shy of $10,000 my dad just about passed out when he found how much it was. Said he would never pay that much for a truck. Well he's 81 now and has paid ore than that for the last 4 Or 5! It was about the same color as the one pictured but with the 3 wide stripes on the doors an front fender. Loved that truck! I had ordered a striped down version in Black but the dealership later told me they couldn't get black because Toyota had decided that all the spot welds around the bed were to noticeable in black so they wasn't going to paint any of them black. The dealership told me this blue one had been ordered by a guy who couldn't get financed so they would sell it to me for the same price we had agreed on for the black one. I'll try to dig up some pictures of it.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I'd love to own one of those or one of these someday. People want an arm and leg for even modest FJ40's that need work, it's crazy.

I had an 1980 Truck and traded it for an 1982 FJ40. I loved both of those trucks.

That truck has style, simplicity, and value. Are you listening Toyota?

The only thing that was bad in that truck was the seat. It was a bench seat with a very thin cushion on the back and not real good on the bottom of it. That 20R engine and straight front axle was bullet proof! Wish I still had it!

I heard that they are remaking a limited run of the FJ's but only available in Japan.

This brings back some good memories. I owned an 81 and an 86. Bought both new. Out of all my 4x4 trucks over the years, the 81 was the best off road vehicle I've owned. I wish I still had it.

My first vehicle was an '83 4wd truck, 22r, 4 spd. "Rust in pieces" was its nickname, what a beast it was.

Man, living in the Northeast stunts seeing old vehicles. I don't recall ever seeing a 4WD truck of that era growing up, and I was a kid in the 80's / early 90's. I think they were all pretty much gone as far back as my memory goes.

It's a shame with the rust around here. Most of the pre-89 trucks are gone, although you may see a few here and there. I do see the occasional 89-94 (there's a few around me that makes me miss mine SO much) and with the buyback I can't tell you how rare the 95.5-00 models are. The 01-04s are starting to dry up a bit as well.

I wonder how quickly the 2nd gens will go away. It's a real shame, because they're great trucks. I do remember wondering when I was younger why Toyotas never had beds on them. My cousin purchased an 88 brand new and I think he went through two beds in something like 4 years.

When I was out in San Diego I was blown away at all the random old cars I was seeing as daily drivers, not necessarily even the 60-70's cars, but just the 80's and early 90's cars that have all but disappeared from the roads around here. I can go weeks without seeing ANYTHING Mitsubishi. I saw a 4WD Mighty Max a few days ago and did a double take.

Mine was a 1980 4x4 that was an Orange color, kind of dark. Some people called it a Burnt Orange. I really did love that truck but my Ex wrapped around a tree in about 84.
