I just did my first oil change (Thanks to BrianR and Jspadaro from this thread http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...ront-diff-transfer-case-oil-change-howto.html) but had some concerns about the fluid that came out. The oil from each area showed different levels of degradation in color, viscosity, and particulates. Here are a couple photos to show what I mean -

Both front and back drain plug magnets showed a significant amount of debris as well.

Being that this was the first time that I have done this by myself I wasn't sure whether these results are typical for around 60K in mileage? Thanks for taking a look.

That looks pretty normal. Metal dust on the magnet is ok, worry if you see larger chunkies on it. If you really want to know what's in it, send it to blackstone labs to get analyzed.

Thanks for the reassurance. The transfer case looked like I had expected but was surprised by the vast difference between the front and rear differentials. Thanks again.

It's transparent and no chunks, I'd consider it normal. :D

My front & rear looked the same - very dark. But, that's probably because I have a mechanical LSD in rear.
