Always thought it was the Service Manager or Service Director's job to make that call. Never seen a service Consultant have that much pull.

Ultimately they have the last say but at my dealer my managers believe in my ability to make the right call and generally ask me for my opinion on what we should do.

I do run everything by them regardless... 1, to keep them in the loop and 2, just in case they have a difference of opinion.

my dealer tried to blame the extra weight of tires on a problem i was having with vibes.. i politely said how about i tow with it or carry the max load with it, maybe i could fill my truck with all my fat friends, would that not stress the driveline. the service manager looked at me and said something like well then, that's a good point, let's move forward with fixing things.. find a truck on their lot that has the 4 leaf pack and no cap on it, brand new i bet the rear of that truck sits almost in an identical position to yours. also ask them to provide the driveshaft angle numbers. sounds like you just happened to be at a shitty dealership full of asses. when you talk to them say it's pretty simple, either you cover this or you don't, if you don't them they get zero $ from you and hit the road. how far do you have to drive home? your truck will likely not fail on the way home just make noise. my driveshaft was fully replaced under warranty with my ome lift as with so many others. i guess that dealership doesn't like making money, morons. in any case do no pay for a new toyota shaft or carrier bearing, order up a tom woods one piece if it comes to paying.

as for the traces of mud, well, you should know that your off road version is not suitable or even gravel roads with dirty puddles...!

This morning I had a meeting with the service manager. He apologized for the misinformation that afternoon and got the techs on it. It was ready by 1pm. Everything was made right and they will be getting my business in the future.

my guess was the carrier bearing and possibly the driveshaft if it got damaged.

They replaced the front u joint. The noise did stop. I am noticing a little vibration over 60mph. They said they couldn't find anything else wrong. 4 hr drive home now.

6 inch Douche Bag lift...what else do I need?
The Toyota dealer nearest me routinely has at least one truck on the lot with a lift and larger than stock tires. Still offers the standard warranty......

glad to hear that did the right thing and got you going. since it was a bad u-joint that could have come apart on the ride home and left you stranded. i bet the service advisor got an earful from management!
