11-13 mpg is my averages spending on my how aggressive I drive. I am more of a lay back driver but I push her hard when I know I am getting late to meetings.

Hey MFOB, the advice everyone's given you is good advice on maintenance. My suggestion, road trip:). Give your truck an honest chance to give you a fair read on mpg's. Cold starts and 3-4 mi trips won't do that for the truck, or you. They are, (fun) to drive, and will hold their own, if given the chance. Get out and enjoy your truck.;)

Ummm no offense man, but get a damn bike. Your commute is 3.5 miles each way. Unless you need your truck when you are actually at work, you are doing more harm than not driving your truck to work every day. You live in Washington, not Buffalo.......

My 07, and 14 4x4 TRD Sport Access cabs, both at 17-20 mpg, consistently.
Both V6/MT. 19 mile commute each way from 3800' elevation to sea level, and back.
Not gentle, mixed conditions, winding mountain road, steep highway, some town traffic.
16 traffic lights in 19 miles.
I usually run between 2K, and 2.5K RPM's, but sometimes get up to 4K going through the gears.
Always run premium fuel (Costco). Both with K&N filters, aftermarket exhaust.

I got 4 bikes. One is a road bike that I ride 100+ miles a week. One is a Fukn sweet Downhill MTN Bike that I shred trails and technical single track with on the Mountains in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming, BC, etc. Another is a full suspension "trash" bike with bright orange tires and flashy lights and shit that I resurrected out of a dumpster to ride when I'm at Burning Man. The last is a Hybrid Cruiser that I ride when I go on bike rides with the wife.

Unfortunately, None of my bikes have a nationally certified car seat device to put my 3 year old daughter in when I pick her up after work. But since you mentioned it, I have an idea. I can ride to work, then after work, ride to where my wife works across town. Then I can take her car and let her ride the 10 miles home on my bike. I'm sure she would love that. I'm also sure that the Daycare would absolutely love it and commend me for showing up an hour late to pick up my child.

So, No offense taken, thanks for the suggestion!

To everyone else that aren't snarky dickwads. Thanks a bunch for the knowledge. It would take years of experience with tons of different vehicles to garner the knowledge that y'all have given. I really appreciate it and will heed some of your advice.

Yeah if you post something on TW you'll get 75% asshole responses from people who have nothing better to do and 25% of people who actually try to give some helpful advice. good luck out there!

These combined with a 4km commute up and down (big long) hills are getting my MPG to about 11 right now. It's all the nature of the beast. Push the commute to 15 -20km on relatively flat (rolling hills) at 60-80kph and the MPG jumps to about 16 or 17.

Try disconnecting the battery, hit the brakes a couple of times, then re-connect.

Drive normal and re-check MPG's and see if that does anything.

    Cheers,

You're mileage is pretty ruff, I thought my FJ was bad. I consistently get 17 city and 19.5 highway, and I do baby it to get that. One thing to check, on the FJ's people had an issue with the thermostat sticking open and they gas mileage would drop to around 12 to 13 mpg. They said that it caused the motor to run too cool and the computer put more gas to the engine to try to get it up to the correct temperature. The motors are similar, just and idea. Here is a post about it:

    http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/engine-performance/119773-fuel-mileage.html#post1786037

I've also heard that iridium spark plugs can cause bad MPG's in a FJ.

    Hope this helps.

    With a 4.0 auto I get:
-~18.5 MPG mixed driving in the summer
    -~15 MPG pure city driving
-~20.5 MPG pure highway driving and babying it for optimal mileage (55-60 MPH)
-~14 MPG normal pure highway driving (75+ MPH)
-~14 MPG mixed driving in a snow storm in 4 HI.
-Towing is very bad. Hauling 5000-6000 lbs in mixed driving with lots of hills involved, I'm well into the single digits, but don't have an exact number.

It's a 4200 lb aerodynamic brick, so it's not going to do fantastically, but you should be doing better than you are even with a 6 speed.

Probably a lot to do with winter fuel, or bad fuel. Try a different gas station.

My 6psd gets horrible mileage too and I'm sick of people saying you own a truck what did you expect. It's a mid size truck with a v6, the thing weighs less than some cars. It shouldn't be this bad.

Hopefully the dealer actually did all the service they claimed they did.
My 09 had good service records but I found that they never changed the spark plugs - I bought it at 92K miles and it had original plugs.
My friend's 09 that he bought new had been dealer serviced every 5K and it also had original plugs at 65K (Denso brand on one side of engine, NGK on the other). They also never greased the drive shaft on his truck and he had a u-joint fail because of it. It was bone dry.

I would check out the spark plugs and definitely pump some grease in the u-joints.

I have a 2015 doublecab 4x4 sport auto and have roughly 360 miles on it. ive had to fill it up twice since i got it and have averaged about 10.5 mpg. however..i know that since i only work 1.3 miles from my home...have a remote starter to warm it up...winter blend gas....gas mileage is gonna suck. im ok with that cause even though its that bad...im only filling up once every 2 weeks and it costs me about 55bucks to fill up. i know itll get better and when i do take it on the highway for long trips, ill recalculate at that time.

basically...when you do all the maintenance and everything is caught up, u may see some improvement or you may not. MPGs are directly effected by how you drive and what type of drive you do and the weather. but hopefully, you do see some improvement. Goodluck.
