Just purchased 2015 DCLB Sport and putting on a truck cap with plans on sleeping in the bed on camping trips. With a new truck cap and properly sealed, it should be a dry compartment. I am consider plugging up the drain holes in the bed of the truck and storage bins to keep water from splashing up through the drain holes when driving in heavy rain.

Being a newbie, this may not be the best way to go, appreciate your opinion if you have experience with modifying the drain holes when using a camping shell. Thanks

The holes are tiny and I've never had water get through them from the bottom. On my 2011 long bed, it's always bone dry even in heavy rain (I have a tonneau cover).

I've had a cap on for over 4 years , as long as you get a good seal between the bed sides / front and the cap there really is no water that gets in . Dust on the other hand ...

Real men just call it camping
Only time any water came in was when I went through a pretty deep water crossing. It wasn't much. Dust is another story.

Don't go overkill, just use some silicone to seal if you're dead set on plugging 'em up

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
In my 2011 they just plugged up over time, but I had an open bed on that so it was exposed to everything. One time after a really heavy rain I came out and there was 4 inches of water pooled up in the back of my truck.

Great info. I didn't consider the dust issue. As soon as the cap gets installed, I am plugging those holes. Thanks

The seam around the tailgate is bad for dust too

What are you trying to say there?

I wouldn't want a cocking there or anywhere else!

OP I would just leave them open. I don't think you will get any water etc in through the bottom. If you do you are already in trouble.

Is there a bed seal kit that anyone has bought and been happy with? Im headed to the maze in a few weeks and want to do something before I fill the back of my truck with red dust.
