Very cool, The more people we have working on this the more likely we are all going to benefit, so I say hack all the things!

I made really good progress tonight and had a POC up and running in the truck, but I'm having second thoughts on this being a 3d printing application. I'm already seeing very pronounced wear on the rack gears, so I'm switching direction and going to do a leadscrew approach. A little slower, but much tougher and fewer parts to create. Not to mention far more secure when not in use. I just branched off the github with a leadscrew branch where I'll dump all of the STL files and progress.

Its going to be a timbo kit if I can get the bugs worked out of it. I am trying to work on a jig to get it set up on so each one is set the same. Before all that is put out I'll run the crap out of mine to make sure nothing happens.

This is awesome, I love seeing the approaches people are taking (WTF toyota?)

Since i've moved to a leadscrew approach, I'm at a bit of a standstill until my gear motors show up from Amazon. I've ordered 7 different types to test out and will report back once I find a good RPM/torque mix. Should have everything in hand in the next few days.

    Awesome:)

Today, while I'm waiting on motors, I'm working on turning the motor coupling into a slipper clutch. My thought is that, after gearing down, we're going to have enough torque to potentially damage something. It wasn't really a concern when I was using a servo, but the combination of a 12v gear headed motor running at 50:1 and a lead screw with a fine pitch could actually break the glass if we drive the lead past the glasse's limit. I have microswitches that will act as end stops, but always plan on failure :) Look for that commit to github later today.

Subd. I'd like the motor and cables to be completely hidden/behind the back panels, unlike BenWa's design. Timbo has the right idea. Appearance goes a long way. I would like a factory look. I have high hopes in Scratch and Timbo!

Big time "more power to you', didn't mean to insinuate that this was not your idea at all. Great idea, love having mine powered. I put no time into mine other that installation, your desighning a new operating method.Kudos sir.
