Hey I was wondering how to fix the p0606 code(PCM processor fault)? I couldn't really find any clear info on a fix. Just bought the truck about 3 weeks ago. About 1 week ago I replaced the old k&n air filter with a new generic air filter and I removed a throttle body spacer that the previous owner had installed. 3 days after that it threw the code and I cleared it. It's now 3 days after that and it just threw that code again. I don't have any history on the truck. Could removing the spacer caused this or is this something completely different? I didn't mess with any electrical stuff when I removed it.

This is usually the ECM has failed. The dealer could try and re-flash it if it is a software issue. It could be an ECU Replacement.

Note: If you find a replacement ECU and put it in the dealer will have to reprogram the trucks VIN into it.

i work for toyota it doesnt need a ecu. one of the rear o2 sensors is shorted out and back feeding in to the ecu. you need to figure out which one and replace it. i have done tons of this before

Dumb Question .... Does the Warranty on the Computer end when the factory car warranty ends - or when the Fed mandated emissions warranty?? (i.e. since the computer runs / controls the emissions ??

    computers are covered 8yrs/80,000
at work we hook up the scanner to it and look at the inpendence of the rear sensors and what ever one has all really high number is the one you wanna replace. make sure car is at operating temp so all the sensors are working to make it easier to see

It came on again this morning. I've had a few different suggestions from several people. So I've did as followed.
    1. Disconnected battery for 30 min
    2. Checked all wires/harnesses running to the ECM
    3. Cleaned MAF sensor
    4. Cleaned throttle body
    5. Cleaned PCV Valve
The CEL is now off now after doing that. I'll do a follow up if it returns. My next step if it returns is checking my O2 sensors. Then get my ECM flashed. I have the Techstream program in my laptop I've used for programming keys/fobs. I think I may can use it to assist me with the ECM but I'd have to look a little more into it before I'd attempt that.

use the techstream to look at the freeze frame data and send me a copy of it and ill tell you what sensor to replace. the only re-flashes available is for the s/c. trust me i work at the dealer and i see that code many times and it always is the 02 sensor. i have seen the younger tech replace the computer for that code and it comes back and i have to fix it.

If the CEL comes back on I'll do that. Wouldn't it throw an O2 code as well as the p0606? They're 4 sensors right? Are all 4 O2 sensors the same part number? This is one right?

the sensor still reads fine but the element inside of it shorts out and back feeds the ecu. i think the rear sensors are the same part number and the fronts are different dont quote me. and yes thats one of the rear o2 sensors
theres 2 air fuel ratio sensors in the manifolds and 2 o2 sensors after that.
some times the light will go away and not come back and some times it does

High voltage off the sensor should pull a P0138, but a shorted sensor may cause an ECU self diagnostic failure. Some Fords had the same problem. If it was my truck, I'd replace the sensors before digging into the ECU. They are cheap to replace, and spend their lives living in a hostile environment.

^ yup i seen that to on other car models its a odd code and people just think that it says the ecu is bad and replace it and it doesnt fix the problem

doording that would work but you need the freeze frame data to figure out what sensor has the high inpendence so you replace the right one.

yea it may work but youll get the 02 sensor code as its unplugged but you wont get the 606 cause its need to have the sensor plugged in to back feed the ecu.

Lesson learned the hard way. Wear leather gloves when playing with the O2 wires. The heat shields are nasty sharp.

CEL came on again this morning. It's been 160 miles since cleared. This time p0606 was accompanied with p0138 O2 sensor high voltage bank 1, sensor 2. Which sensor is that?
