I have 8 year 125k miles, and still in the factory warranty period anyway, 25k miles and 15 month old truck. I plan on making it more of an issue next time I go in, it's a pain in the ass to go just for that issue alone, so it'll wait until the next oil change or alignment if I ever install my rear lift.

But OZ...I've got an '06 and I do not know if the sensors are all working or not...the spare tire 1 failed years ago, but don't know about the others..I suspect that if they are not gone they will be soon....that's why I'm not wasting my time or a work around the pressure idea, when the sensors may already be bad...and I have 1 dead now.

I'll live with the tape...can't even see it till I sit up straight..hehe

Hey guys, Idk where to ask this question but I think this thread may work(Not trying to high jack it) It has been cold out here in SoCal, and my tpms light has come on. It seems to go off after a good amount of driving and the tires are warm. I have checked all the tires and they are all reading the same pressure. I was wondering anyone else has this problem with stock wheels/tires in the cold

It seems to be staying on more with it getting colder and I dont want to mess anything up driving it "low" but dont want to put more air in because when it gets hot and the expansions

Cold lowers air pressures , it's as simple as that

When I replaced my tires the shop re-inflated the new tired with nitrogen and they go low probably twice a year. Yet my spare has never gone low with just regular old air. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...I smell a conspiracy.

Not necessary , althought you may want to add a bit of air so your cold air inflation is correct till ambient temperatures are higher

Just make sure all the tires and the spare are within 6-8 lbs of each other so the light doesn't come on....or so it'll go off. The TPMS are just looking for variation in pressure beyond a certain threshold from one to the others.

Yeah, just had to look to be sure and yes, ours do seem to go off if tire is 25% off a certain programmed pressure. Found this about direct systems like ours.............

"The monitors detect when a tire has lost 25% of it's correct pressure, and send a signal to the ECU, which lights up the low pressure light on the instrument panel."

I thought it was more like if any get more than a certain pressure different from the others regardless of what pressure that is, then the light comes on.

    Conspiracy? Nah...

Actually what you are breathing right now is about 75% nitrogen.

Here is a link to an artical discussing the "benefits" of using nitrogen instead of regluar old fashioned "air".

You should fill the tire to the proper pressure when it is Cold before you drive it and warm up the tires. Then reset the TPMS system at that point. Then you will not have this issue.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone apply a thin coating of Permatex Form-A-Gasket on the rin where the tire seats to help prevent corrosion and slow leaks?

I check spares in both of my vehicles religiously. Out here in the sticks, you need a spare you can use. I check the others every time I fill up which is once a week. I flip the spare as soon as I buy a vehicle. I don't need tpms but it's good to have in case of puncture.

If one uses one of these, you don't have to lower or flip the spare to check the pressure (though, I'm all for someone lowering the spare at least once under low/no-stress conditions to see how it all works before it's really needed):

Probably have the only 2nd Gen with an 8274 in the world.
    Are the sensor batteries replaceable?
