i was reading through the TSB thread last night( hell of a thing to do, now ill bedoing it all year lol) and came across the manifold issue, and realized the tick ive been hearing is most likely that, my question is this a performance?efficiency issue or just inconvenient noise? i do not hear it until the 18oo to 22oo rpm range, mainly on hard acceleration, as well as the drive line vibration, which seems to be at that same rpm range. is there a way to re torque the manifold bolts, or change a gasket to remedy this or is it a flawed design? i still get good gas mileage, performance, etc.

There's more theories on this than Bayer has Aspirin. I think it's injector noise on mine. It's random and seems to fade when I run some Techron injector cleaner through it.

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
I had the TSB performed on my '06. I had a hard acceleration tick as you described, I told my service manager that there was no way that a cracked exhaust manifold was the cause. I was wrong, they did the TSB and it was gone forever. I thought for sure that it was a valve or a lifter.

Does your tick go away after warmed up?

    this is the key here.

If an exhaust manifold is cracked the noise will reduce or disappear as it warms up.

They were going to replace my manifolds out of warranty to fix it at something well north of $500/piece. I said if I cared that much I'd just upgrade to aftermarket exhaust manifolds/headers for cheaper.

problem is here in CA, you are going to have to stick with OEM headers.... as the header/manifold has the cats built into them.

I was in Hawaii at the time but you are correct. I think the Doug Thorley shorties have you cut off the stock cats and weld them onto the headers but it's been awhile since I looked into them so I can't remember. Not like people aren't already punching their cats anyway but that's a different story.

And no, the noise does not fade when the engine warms up. its very quiet at idle, after cold starts, 122k on odo. runs and pulls great. never ran above the middle mark on the temp gauge, uses very little oil.

Mine started doing it a few months after the dealer did a head gasket job on it. They covered that under their used car warranty but my understanding (and I could be wrong) is that TSB's aren't recalls and they will only honor them if the truck is under warranty. Which mine and the OP's certainly are not. Mine doesn't do it all the time and it's barely noticeable.
