I'm curious as to what the frame looks like to not pass frame inspection.. Is yours really bad or just rusting on the surface? Ive read about frames having major holes.. Would you be willing to post a pic of what yours actually looks like? I will be buying a sand blaster soon and sand blasting pretty much the whole underside of my truck and coating with something.. Ive read on this site about people using a certain liquid coating, the name escapes me right now..

My truck has always bee a California truck and I haven't seen a recall for trucks here..
It seems good that you have a few options (not the best but.. ) options for possibly fixing your frame.

I knew when I got my truck that it would be rusting out because the lack of any coating from the factory. I knew they sprayed an oil coating on it that wore off immediately. If I was on my game, then I would have been coating my frame every year, but then someone on their game wouldn't necessarily abuse the truck the way I have.. But hey memories last longer than these trucks right? :]

I agree with others that maybe the dealership is not trained to do it properly and I would want my frame replacement done at a place that has done a lot of them.

When I brought my truck in they found the frame rust and would not let me drive it out, I said I would come back the next day just so I could drive home and get my stuff out of the truck and they wouldn't let me. If your frame is so bad that it needs to be replaced how are they going to let you drive on it never mind for a 9 hour drive, bug liability for them

The closest dealer to me has two bays devoted to frame swaps, but this is New England after all so they have a whole bunch in queue at all times.

The following is from another thread about about the LSC (2nd Gen Tacoma Frame Recall 2005-08). I posted it back in Oct. I'm in the same boat you are basically.

Here's an email I just got back from Toyota on my frame rust issue. My original email is at the bottom.

Recently you contacted Toyota. Below is a summary of yourcontact message and our response.

Thank you for allowing us to be of service to you.

    Dear Mr. Fuller,

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

While we can understand your dissatisfaction with this decision, it does represent Toyota's final position in this matter.
We again apologize for the situation you encountered withyour 2006 Tacoma, and we are sorry for any inconvenience or expense you mayincur.
Your email has been documented at our NationalHeadquarters under file #1409161201.

    Hi,

I'm trying to get some help with my 2006 Tacoma frame rust issue. My truck was purchased new at Crestmont Toyota in New Jersey. It was in New Jersey up until 2012. The truck is now located in Charleston, SC. I've had the dealer here look at it. The Southeast rep said there's nothing they can do for me. The whole frame looks bad. The attached picture is of the driver side catalytic converter area.

Basically a big F%#K YOU from Toyota!

    Update:

Been back and forth with corporate this week. Im waiting for my case manager's supervisor to call me back. She is supposed to be contacting southeast toyota and getting back to me by the end of the day on Monday.

Good news is, i spoke with my service rep at the dealership. He told me they are 100% certified and capable of replacing frames. Their head mechanic has done 3 swaps in the past 2 years, and they recently hired two new guys from NY and MI that used to perform frame swaps on a regular basis.

Hopefully I'll have more news on monday or tuesday

    Good luck.
I bought a Tacoma that was from Saltachusetts and the rust on the frame was horrible, all surface though but very bad.
I found out about the re-call to which I learned had never been done.
I talked to Corporate about this and was told that since I live in SD and it is not considered a "cold state" either and is not in the campaign recall.
They would not honor even their re-call with me as I do not reside in the recall states.
My pickup had resided in Mass though from day 1 until it was bought and then transported to South Dakota.
My dealer and I went as far as we could go in Toyota Corporate and they blew us off.
They said that is where their liability ended as I did not reside in the cold state!
    That is no BS.

So at that my dealer agreed to split the cost($1500) with me for the repair which consisted of taking off the rear bumper, removing the box, jacking up the passenger side of the cab as well as the drivers side, sandblasting all of the frame and then re-coating the entire frame with 3 coats of por-15, which is I am sure 30 X better than what Toyota would have done.

Was your truck registered in South Dakota when you tried to get it done?

Damn. How long ago did u deal with them? Sounds like the complete opposite experience from what I've had with them. My service rep has been nothing but helpful, giving me advice for dealing with corporate, etc. I'll keep this thread updated, I hope to hear back from my case manager by tomorrow afternoon. If everything works out, I'll get you in touch with everyone I've dealt with, both at the dealership and corporate.

What part of VA did u move from? I grew up in Loudoun County

Haha $850? Geez. The paid off thing could be the issue, who knows. My truck is still registered in MD so that's been a leverage point for me. Had you already registered your truck in SC by the time you made it to the dealership for this issue?

No, I hadn't even registered at the time.

Truthfully, if they do not replace the frame they will not do as good of a job that you could get done on your own.

It's the cost thing though which is the bottom line.
I now have 3 coats of Por-15 on it, how it should've came in the first place.

I talked to a Toyota Asst. Service Manager today at my local Haley Toyota dealership as my truck is there waiting on a frame kit for the recall. I told him of your situation and he said that you should call corp customer service and explain your situation and they should do what is needed to help you. The truck was purchased and lived in states where the issues occurred so it should be covered. The local dealer might not be able to get the frame kit but Toyota should do what it takes to get you taken care of including a loaner vehicle.
