I believe that ABS is acting up, there's too many to just dismiss it. However, I also believe a large number of these people locked the tires up and are blaming ABS.

I drive in the snow/ice ALOT and have never once had an issue with my ABS. I've locked the tires up sure, but I have never had the ABS release the wheels at a low speed on ice.

I have an 01 4x4 TRD. I've had the same kind of ice situation at those same tracks in years past. It always stopped!!! Sometimes wasn't pretty,,, but,,, it stopped. Onetime it was (sideways),,,, but it stopped.:)

Have we found any common denominators? Oversized tires?

"If your car or truck has antilock brakes (ABS), vehicle manufacturers advise buying new tires that are the same size as those installed at the factory. The reason: the diameter of the tires affects how the wheel speed sensors read, which affects the operation of the ABS and traction control systems. Installing different-sized tires in the front and rear can also impact the operation of antilock brakes. (You’ll know that the ABS has been deactivated when the ABS warning light comes on.)"

    http://www.mountainviewtire.com/new...ffect-braking-handling-and-your-odometer.html

EDIT: In looking around a little bit it seems to be a very known problem that larger tires than stock can cause ABS to be over sensitive...

ABS causes a dangerous understeer condition. I've had it happen twice, hit the brakes to turn ABS comes on and the truck hardly turns headed for the ditch, I take my foot off the brake truck turns as intended. To slippery to stop but not slippery enough to lose control while turning. The ABS is to sensitive!

Maybe, but common sense ain't so common.

Click click click click click click click click click click click click click click...
    Yea, so...

Maybe one day your ABS will fail and you'll stop better:rolleyes:

Seriously, my trucks ABS must of been put together on a Wednesday because I'm having no issues in the snow and ice we've been bombarded with this year.

The picture isn't enough? Studs = traction on ice. Less "click click click". More stopping.
